AJ Dillon, who was set to be the Packers’ lead running back after Aaron Jones was ruled out with injury, has picked up an injury of his own ahead of their Week 12 game against the Lions. A groin injury has kept Dillon limited at practices this week as Matt LaFleur doesn’t want to risk this week’s starting RB’s injury getting any worse. Let’s take a look at how this injury could affect Dillon’s fantasy outlook this week.

Update — Dillon is officially active for Week 12 vs. the Lions.

Fantasy football analysis

Dillon’s fantasy production has been gradually increasing throughout the season, but he still hasn’t been bringing in big enough numbers to warrant a lock as a starter every week. Although he’s played every game, he plays behind Aaron Jones and hasn’t seen enough consistent volume to bring in big scores.

He was set to be the starter this week, and one would assume that will still be the plan if he’s able to suit up on Thursday. If he’s unable to play, fellow running backs Patrick Taylor and James Robinson would be next in line, with Taylor likely getting the start as he’s made a few appearances this season while Robinson hasn’t seen any time on the field.

NFL DFS analysis

Dillon has been averaging just 7.7 fantasy points per game in DFS play at DraftKings, with his highest score being 13.6 back in Week 5. He hasn’t seen enough action to truly move the needle especially in DFS this season, although he brought in 10.1 points last week and saw a fairly significant price jump from $4,600 to $5,300 this week following the Aaron Jones injury news.

If Dillon can’t play, it’s best to steer clear of the Packers backfield in DFS this week as whoever starts between Taylor and Robinson likely won’t be turning in a huge score in Dillon’s absence.

Betting analysis

The Packers are 7.5-point underdogs against the Lions, priced at +310 on the moneyline as they’re expected to lose the Thanksgiving Day clash. If Dillon is unable to play, it could drop their odds even further but it wouldn’t matter a ton as they’re already at a disadvantage.

Dillon has just one touchdown all season and it’s safe to say the point total, currently 47.5 at DraftKings Sportsbook, likely wouldn’t be affected much if he’s left out of the lineup.
