The skies were clear with nary a cloud in sight Friday in Baltimore. There was a slight breeze that floated the Orioles to a 2-0 lead through five innings against the visiting Padres. Jordan Westburg ($4,800; 3 FTPS) hit a solo shot in the second inning, then he scored on a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning.
Grayson Rodriguez ($9,400; 7.05 FTPS) was cruising along then….POW! A bolt of turbulence took the Orioles off their previously smooth flight path as Jurickson Profar ($4,500; 32 FTPS) hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, knocking Rodriguez out of the game. The Padres tacked on two more runs that inning on two doubles.
But the Orioles didn’t crash into the ground. They regained their aerodynamics and swung back up into the atmosphere with an Anthony Santander ($5,100; 14 FTPS) home run in the eighth inning, followed by a sacrifice fly that tied the game at 4-4.
In the top of the ninth, though, Profar morphed from turbulence to a full-blown tornado as he smacked a two-run shot for the game-winner.
