He gets to face a White Sox lineup that entered Wednesday averaging 0.75 runs per game fewer than any other team in the league, generating just over 2.9 runs per game while the Miami Marlins is the next-worst offense with just under 3.7 runs per game.
The Red Sox offense came into Wednesday’s action tied for 14th in the league in runs per game but averaging closer to 4.8 runs per game on the road compared to 3.9 runs per game at home.
Jake Woodford gets his second start of the season for the White Sox, who will look to recapture his 2022 form when he posted a 2.23 ERA and 3.13 fielding independent with the St. Louis Cardinals as he’s had a 6.23 ERA since the start of the 2023 season.
The Red Sox are ninth in the league in bullpen ERA with a mark of 3.57 and with the White Sox offensive struggles this season, Thursday’s series opener sets up to be a low-scoring affair.
