Best College Football Week 9 DFS Picks
Quarterback
Stud
Devon Dampier, Utah at Cincinnati, $8,800
Devon Dampier is having a great season with the Utes. Dampier has 20 total touchdowns this season, 15 through the air and five on the ground. He ranks among the national leaders with 15 passing touchdowns while also being a serious threat on the ground. Last week, he had an excellent game, rushing for 150 yards against Houston and throwing for 204 more. This is a big trip to Cincinnati, and Dampier should keep it rolling. The Bearcats rank 103rd in the nation in defensive EPA/rush and 93rd in defensive EPA/dropback. The Utah quarterback should get what he wants both through the air and on the ground.
Value
Aidan Chiles, Northwestern at Oregon, $7,100
This is a huge opportunity for Aidan Chiles. He has done a great job in Chip Kelly’s system in Evanston. Northwestern is 6-1 and has an actual shot to make the College Football Playoff if they win this week at Oregon. The Ducks’ season is basically over, so this could be a spot where they quit on the field. Chiles has 21 total touchdowns this season, including rushing for at least one score in every game. He should have a productive day against Oregon and is a great value play in DFS this week.
Running Back
Stud
Kendrick Raphael, SMU at Syracuse, $7,600
Kendrick Raphael is in great form coming into this game. He has rushed for over 100 yards in each of his past two games, and he scored three total touchdowns last week against Cal. He should be in for a big game against Syracuse. The Orange have allowed 4.2 yards per rush this season, and their run defense has struggled in several efficiency metrics. SMU ranks 24th in the country in offensive rushing success rate and should move the ball on the ground with ease in this game. Raphael should be in for another 100-yard rushing game and find the end zone at least once.
Value
Makhi Frazier, Ole Miss vs. Auburn, $4,900
Makhi Frazier is set to be the RB1 for Ole Miss once again. The Rebels’ standout running back, Kewan Lacy, is set to miss another week. Frazier has actually been more efficient on the ground this season, averaging 5.9 yards per carry compared to Lacy’s 5.0. He is also a threat in the passing game, catching five balls last week against Texas. Frazier should be in for a big workload with Lacy out and can make the most of it against Auburn. Auburn ranks 93rd in the nation in defensive rushing success rate. Frazier should be efficient against that defense and has a great chance to score a touchdown as well.
Wide Receiver
Stud
Isaiah Sategna III, Oklahoma vs. South Carolina, $7,300
Isaiah Sategna III has been the lone bright spot on the Oklahoma offense this season. John Mateer has struggled for most of the season but has found some success when targeting Sategna. Last week, Oklahoma finally had a good offensive game against Mississippi State. Sategna had eight catches for 164 yards and a touchdown in that game. He now has eight catches in back-to-back games and should keep the momentum going against the Gamecocks. The way to beat South Carolina is on deep balls downfield, so Mateer should take some shots to Sategna in this game. South Carolina ranks 101st in defensive EPA/dropback and should give up a few long catches to Sategna in this matchup.
Value
Talyn Taylor, Georgia vs. Florida, $5,500
The Georgia passing game has been inconsistent at best this season. Freshman receiver Craig Dandridge is leading the team in receiving yards with just 310 on the season. Meanwhile, sophomore wideout Talyn Taylor leads the team in receptions this season. It’s worth a shot on Taylor to have a breakout game against the shaky Florida secondary. Taylor had a nice showing last time out against Auburn, catching four balls for 64 yards. Florida ranks 112th in the nation in defensive EPA/dropback. Gunner Stockton should take some downfield shots to beat this secondary, and Taylor should be on the receiving end of a couple of them. Taylor has three touchdowns on the season; if he can manage to score here, he would be a steal at this price.
