Rock Fight in Boston
The Nets and the Celtics do not like each other, and it shows. Boston has been a hotbed of rivalry, with Jayson Tatum trying to push his Celtics across the finish line. But Michael Porter Jr. has come up big in the second half and is throwing his hat in the ring for the KOTC.
With Wemby and Cade coming out of halftime, things are about to heat up. Buckle up.
Bow Before Wemby
That was quite the first half for the San Antonio Spurs. Along with Julian Champagnie’s explosion, Victor Wembanyama put on a show in the first half against the Kings. Wemby has 23 points and 9 rebounds as the Spurs lead the Kings by 26 at halftime. This puts the Spurs center at the top of the King of the Court leaderboard.
But the blowout does loom large here. If the Spurs keep dismantling the Kings, Wemby won’t play much longer, and his chances of winning will take a big hit. He still has to keep an eye on Jayson Tatum and Cade Cunningham, who are both having big games in tight matchups.
King Julian?
Julian Champagnie is SCORCHING for the San Antonio Spurs. Their sharpshooter has knocked down a whopping eight threes in the first half against the Kings, and has rocketed to the top of the King of the Court leaderboard.
All it takes is one hot shooting night. Let’s see if Champagnie will keep popping.
Alien Alert
It was bound to be Victor Wembanyama’s night tonight. Facing a tremendously bad Kings defense, the MVP favorite is going off in the first quarter, racking up 15 points and three boards. Of course, he’s doing it in incredible style.
This is certainly the kind of matchup where Wemby can push for the King of the Court title. He’s well on the pace that Jayson Tatum set, but it’s going to be a fierce early fight with Cade Cunningham.
JT Takes Charge
It is certainly looking like Jayson Tatum’s night. As we approach halftime at TD Garden, Boston’s star has 15 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists. He’s holding a solid lead in the King of the Court standings with 21 total P/R/A.
Over in New York, Cade Cunningham is getting it going early. In the first quarter against the Knicks, the Detroit point guard has 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. It’s looking like a big early window—let’s see what happens as they work through the first half.
Tatum Sets the Tone
It’s no surprise to see Jayson Tatum getting off on the right foot against the Nets. The Celtics superstar has kicked the game off with six points, two rebounds, and two assists. It looks like the kind of night where Tatum could be on triple-double watch.
On the Nets side of things, it’s not Julius Randle who is impressing early. Nolan Traore has scored nine points in the first quarter, giving Brooklyn a strong early boost. On such a scant night of games, who knows which players could come out of nowhere?
Tipping Off
It’s time to get underway for another edition of King of the Court! The first game in our four-game slate tips off between the Nets and the Celtics; Julius Randle and Jayson Tatum are big names to watch. Soon after, we get a double tipoff: the Kings head to play the Spurs, while the 3-0 Pistons take on the 0-3 Knicks. Wemby, Cade, Brunson, KAT, Sabonis- we’ve got a lot of names with KOTC chops about to play.
Of course, we can’t forget the main event later on. Luka Doncic, who has many King of the Court crowns to his name, will face Deni Avdija and the Blazers in our nightcap. Nothing is settled until the Don has his say. Let’s get settled in for a long night of hoops.
