Tyler Allgeier Start or Sit Advice for Week 6

Arizona needs Tyler Allgeier to revive a running game that barely stirred against Detroit. Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur ruled Jeremiyah Love out Friday with an ankle injury, leaving Allgeier to start Sunday against the Rams.

Allgeier will get his chance, that’s for sure. But it’s behind an offensive line already missing two starters, so it’s not like this is a total smash spot.

Tyler Allgeier Start or Sit Advice for Week 6

I’d start Allgeier as a low-end RB2 in a 12-team PPR league. Bam Knight will rotate behind him, and Arizona expects to elevate Evan Hull from the practice squad. Allgeier should absorb most of Love’s early-down work; LaFleur already trusts him when Jacoby Brissett has to throw.

Against the Giants in Week 4, LaFleur chose Allgeier’s superior pass protection for the final drive, including all four closing downs from New York’s four-yard line. Allgeier also played 10 red-zone snaps to Love’s two that afternoon. Arizona’s coach has already demonstrated a willingness to use him in scoring range and obvious passing situations, which matters considerably against a Rams offense capable of forcing the Cardinals to chase.

And Los Angeles has been surprisingly accommodating on the ground. Through five games, the Rams have allowed 4.6 yards per carry; James Cook just punished them for 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns. They also rank among the league’s most generous defenses in yards allowed before contact per rush.

Biggest issue at hand: Arizona still has to block somebody. Left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. and right guard Isaiah Adams have landed on injured reserve, and Love and Allgeier scraped together just 29 rushing yards against Detroit last week. Love’s ankle contributed to that miserable afternoon, but removing him doesn’t repair the line.

Allgeier has averaged an uninspiring 3.4 yards per carry this season, despite ranking sixth in yards after contact per attempt among 42 qualifying rushers. He’s fighting through contact; Arizona needs to clear more space around him. A larger workload raises his fantasy value, though a rushing breakout requires better execution from the replacement blockers.

The receiving forecast for this week doesn’t have me going wild, either. Over the past two games, Allgeier played 49.3% of Arizona’s snaps but earned just a 4.8% target share. Brissett needing his protection can actually prevent him from running a route. The Rams have conceded 42.6 receiving yards per game to backs, third-most through Week 5, but Allgeier still needs Arizona to release him into the pattern to exploit that weakness.

Fantasy Outlook for Tyler Allgeier in Week 6

I project roughly 15–18 touches and would use Allgeier at RB2 or FLEX in a typical 12-team PPR league. Around 60 rushing yards and two short catches would put him near nine or 10 points before a touchdown. Arizona’s willingness to use him in scoring range makes a better afternoon plausible, though Brissett still has to sustain enough drives to get him there.

I’d accept that modest baseline for an injury or bye-week replacement. Managers with two established starting backs and a dependable receiving option at FLEX can leave Allgeier on the bench.

Verdict: Start as a low-end RB2 in PPR leagues
