LSU vs. Mississippi State Player Prop Best Bets

Kolin Wilson Anytime Touchdown (+190)

This could be a tough game for Mississippi State. Superstar quarterback Kamario Taylor is questionable for the game, as is starting running back Fluff Bothwell. If Taylor is out, Mississippi State will have to rely heavily on the running game. If Bothwell is out, that running game will be led by Kolin Wilson. Wilson is a redshirt freshman and has been the clear RB2 behind Bothwell. However, he will be expected to take on a big load if Bothwell can’t play. Even if Bothwell gives it a go, there is a chance he is on a snap count or can’t finish the game. With the injuries to Mississippi State’s two offensive stars, all signs point to Wilson playing a big role in this game.

Kolin Wilson has seen a decent amount of action this season, despite Bothwell being the bell-cow. Wilson has double-digit carries in two games this season, including last week against Alabama. Even ignoring the injuries, Mississippi State would want to lean on the run game this week. A road trip to Baton Rouge makes for an incredibly tough setting for an offense to operate. Establishing the run would keep the ball away from the LSU offense and quiet the wild Baton Rouge crowd. LSU also has elite defensive metrics against the pass, but has been a bit more vulnerable to the run. With all of these variables on the table, it is worth a shot on Wilson to score a touchdown in this game.

Sam Leavitt 37+ Rushing Yards (-118)

Sam Leavitt should use his legs in this game against the Bulldogs. Mobile quarterbacks have been able to take advantage of the Mississippi State defense this season. In Week 1, UL Monroe quarterback Austin Carlisle rushed for 50 yards against the Bulldogs. South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers rushed for 52 yards against Mississippi State earlier this season, and Alabama’s Keelon Russell ran for a touchdown against the Bulldogs last week. The Bulldogs rank 101st in defensive success rate this season.

Leavitt will use his legs much more often in big games. He has double-digit rushing attempts in three of four games against Power Four opponents this season. In all three of those Power Four matchups in which he had double-digit carries, he has rushed for at least 39 yards. The Mississippi State pass rush should not be able to beat the LSU offensive line very often, meaning Leavitt should avoid the negative sack yardage. Between designed runs and scrambles, he should be able to keep the chains moving with his legs, getting to at least 37 rushing yards in the game.
