If Jeremiyah Love sits, is Tyler Allgeier a must-start in a tough matchup vs. the Rams?

The Cardinals have been cautious about Love’s ($5,600) usage during his rookie season and with the back currently dealing with an ankle injury, Love sat out practice Wednesday and there is a chance he doesn’t play Sunday vs. the Rams, per the Cardinals’ Darren Urban.

If Love sits, Allgeier ($4,800) will start at running back for Arizona, but how appealing of a fantasy play will he be vs. the Rams?

Tyler Allgeier’s Week 6 Fantasy Outlook

If Love sits, Allgeier should take a big workload as the Cardinals’ lead back while Bam Knight ($4,000) should see a small role behind him. This should be around a 70/30 split in favor of Allgeier and he should see a minimum of 15 touches.

Unfortunately, Allgeier hasn’t been effective this season, averaging just 3.4 YPC and 0.2 FPTS per snap, which ranks 48th of the 60 backs who have logged at least 25% of their team’s snaps. Although, Allgeier has been solid when given 10+ touches the last two seasons, with 12 qualifying games averaging 9.8 PPR points.

As for his matchup, Allgeier is facing the Rams this Sunday and while Los Angeles has many big names on defense, this group has relatively underachieved this season, ranking 10th in defensive EPA per play. The Rams have been particularly susceptible on the ground, allowing the third-highest rushing success rate in the NFL and the ninth-most yards per rush (4.6).

The Cardinals and Rams also both rank top-10 in pace, and this game’s 51.5-point total on DraftKings Sportsbook is the third-highest of Week 6. This should be a fantasy friendly environment and while calling Allgeier a “must-play” is aggressive, he will bring solid upside in this setting if Love is inactive.

Allgeier will be a decent RB3/FLEX play for season-long leagues and he will be a viable DFS target at only $4,800 on DraftKings.
