PITCHER
Stud
Cam Schlittler, New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays ($10,200) — In 193.2 regular season innings, Schlittler posted an impressive 2.56 FIP, 25 K-BB% and allowed only 16 home runs. In Game 1 of the ALDS, Schlittler went 6.1 innings, did not allow an earned run on two hits, walked one and struck out 10. Translation: He’s good. In two regular outings against Tampa Bay, Schlittler put up 33.6 (in Tampa Bay) and 11.8 FPTS (only pitched three innings and threw 70 pitches, as the Yankees wanted to manage him for the postseason).
Value
Freddy Peralta, Tampa Bay Rays vs. New York Yankees ($6,500) — The season-long numbers are meh for Peralta, as the FIP was 4.28 with a 12.7 K-BB%. After being traded to Tampa Bay, things remained the status quo of meh. But, but, but….over the last six starts, Peralta was lights out, posting a 0.79 ERA and finishing with double-digit FPTS in all with three over 20 FPTS. That said, he was lucky with a .187 BABIP and 94% strand rate. The FIP was 2.78. Good but not as dominating at first glance. Still, he’s cheap and could go five to six innings. Against the Yankees this season, Peralta put up 8.4 FPTS while with the Mets.
INFIELD
Stud
Ben Rice, New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays ($5,700) — During the regular season, Rice hit 41 home runs with 105 runs, 97 RBI and three stolen bases in 667 plate appearances. The walk rate was 12.7%, strikeout rate was 24.3% and the ISO was .271. In 14 postseason plate appearances, he’s hit two home runs, scored three times and driven in six. The average exit velocity is 91.9 mph with a 14.3% barrel rate. Against right-handed pitching, Rice has hit 30 home runs while the wRC+ is 165 with a .305 ISO. Freddy Peralta is likely the most vulnerable pitcher on the slate and could give up a bomb or two. Against lefties, Peralta allowed 17 home runs with a 4.41 FIP and 13.2 K-BB%.
Value
Nathaniel Lowe, Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox ($3,000) — Lowe isn’t terribly exciting, as he hit 17 home runs in 429 plate appearances. Still, he posted a respectable .192 ISO and a 74.4 mph bat speed. He sat on Saturday as lefty Hagen Smith opened the game. Lowe should be back in the lineup, as Sean Burke gets the nod for Chicago. During the regular season, Burke allowed an average exit velocity of 89.5 mph with an 18.5 degree launch angle and 8.3% barrel rate. Lefties hit 13 of the 19 home runs allowed.
OUTFIELD
Stud
Angel Martinez, Cleveland Guardians vs. Chicago White Sox ($4,100) — Martinez had 18 home runs and 11 stolen bases in 416 regular season plate appearances. Against right-handed pitching, the ISO is .205. Now, he is better against left-handed pitching, but Burke has had some issues with lefties this season.
Value
Tristan Peters, Chicago White Sox at Cleveland Guardians ($3,100) — Peters never wowed from a Statcast perspective this season, but all he did was produce some fantasy goodies here…and fantasy goodies there on most days. Those days weren’t filled with gluttony, but sprinkles made many smile. In 491 regular season plate appearances, Peters finished with 12 home runs, 63 runs, 56 RBI and eight stolen bases. Gavin Williams is an excellent pitcher, but he did allow an average exit velocity of 90.2 mph with an 11.4% barrel rate. 14 home runs were allowed to lefties.
