Can the Falcons’ QB situation get any worse?
After a training camp “battle” with the injured Michael Penix, where Tua Tagovailoa won the starting role out of sheer necessity, it now appears that the former Alabama star is a question mark heading into Week 1.
As such, veteran journeyman Cooper Rush handled a majority of Atlanta’s first team snaps on Thursday, and it feels like the 32-year-old could be in line to start this Sunday against the Steelers.
Rush played four games for the Ravens in 2025, completing 65.4% of his 52 pass attempts, but averaged a microscopic 2.0 adjusted net yards per throw. For his career, Rush has started 16 contests and he’s thrown 20 touchdowns.
While the quarterback uncertainty isn’t ideal for owners of Drake London or Kyle Pitts, the downgrade from a banged up Tua to Rush probably isn’t a dealbreaker. The Falcons are still notable underdogs on the road, and will likely be in passing situations in the second-half while playing in a negative script.
Officially, Tagovailoa was listed as limited for Thursday’s session with an oblique issue.
