The injury bug has been active to start this NBA season, with Ja Morant its latest victim. Morant has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, which will sideline the Portland Trail Blazers’ guard for at least four weeks.
It has been an encouraging start to the season for the two-time All-Star. Morant is posting averages of 15.8 points, 5.5 assists, and 2.5 rebounds across 25.8 minutes per game in his first four matchups with the franchise.
Portland has been off to a strong collective start, as well, opening the season with a 3-1 record. Damian Lillard has made his return to the franchise, looking to build off its success following Deni Avdija’s All-Star breakout and plenty of other encouraging leaps from the young core.
The Trail Blazers currently hold +2000 odds of winning the Western Conference on DraftKings Sportsbook. They also hold -200 odds of winning 45+ games and +160 odds of winning 50+.
Morant being sidelined will change the outlook for the franchise in the short-term, and the inability to continue working through the best way to maximize the collection of talents together on the floor may be the bigger story.
