Granted, Williams’ hold atop Los Angeles’ depth chart isn’t ironclad. Blake Corum is one of the best backups in the NFL; he churned out 746 rushing yards and six TDs last season. Expect the Michigan product to get his fair share of carries on Thursday. Still, there’s plenty of touches to go around. Williams handled at least 12 rushes in all 17 of his appearances in 2025. In comparison, Corum surpassed that workload on just four occasions last season.
It was not a terrific season for San Francisco’s defense. The team gave up 335.4 yards per game to opponents, only good enough for 18th in the NFL. To boot, the 49ers surrendered a below-average 4.4 yards per rush attempt. There’s reason to believe this unit will be improved. Standout defensive end Nick Bosa is finally healthy. Even if the 49ers are improved, Williams is a proven producer in this spot. The Notre Dame alum has plenty of familiarity with LA’s NFC West rivals. Over five career meetings with San Francisco, he’s averaging 77.4 rushing yards per game. To boot, he’s churned out at least 55 rushing yards in four of those outings. Williams has found the end zone nine different times against the Niners, proof that the coaching staff trusts him inside the red zone.
It wouldn’t be a shock if both of these offenses come out a bit flat. On paper, a divisional game halfway across the world has all the makings of a slugfest. If that’s the case, the Rams may opt for a safer, more conservative approach on offense. That’s without mentioning game script. Los Angeles should keep the ball on the clock if it happens to lead during the second half. At a modest total of 55 rushing yards, expect plenty of Kyren Williams on Thursday night.
