Chicago White Sox vs. Houston Astros prediction, pick for MLB on Sunday 7/26/26

Houston reaches Sunday at 52-54 after sweeping Miami and taking the first two games at Rate Field. The Astros erased a five-run deficit Friday, then won 4-1 behind Hunter Brown’s seven shutout innings Saturday. That makes five consecutive victories and leaves Houston two games from the AL West lead. Chicago remains 54-49 and atop the AL Central, although three losses in four games have cooled its momentum. Spencer Arrighetti’s foot injury further thins Houston’s rotation, increasing the importance of Ronel Blanco’s workload-restricted second start. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and the Houston Astros.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

White Sox vs. Astros prediction, preview

Blanco’s returning stuff looked alive during his season debut, producing eight strikeouts across 4⅔ innings and 86 pitches. He threw his curveball and changeup 30.2% apiece, with a 27.9% four-seamer and 11.6% slider. That mix generated a 42.1% strikeout rate, but three walks and two homers exposed unfinished command. Eight batted balls averaged 94.8 mph, with a 62.5% hard-hit rate, three barrels, and a .388 xwOBA. Those contact numbers are extremely noisy, yet they support Houston maintaining another 85-to-90-pitch ceiling. Erick Fedde counters with a 4.16 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 66 strikeouts, and 35 walks across 93⅔ innings. His 3.22 ERA over five appearances looks useful, although a 5.15 FIP and limited length weaken that run prevention. Houston owns a .244 average and .734 OPS against right-handers, rising to a .755 OPS over the past month.

Jeremy Peña, Yordan Alvarez, and Isaac Paredes give Houston a frightening first trip through the order. Peña carries a .315/.371/.477 line, a 140 wRC+, and only a 15.7% strikeout rate. He collected three hits Saturday and has immediately restored Houston’s pace since returning from the injured list. Alvarez enters at .325/.431/.646 with 34 homers, 77 RBIs, and an elite .446 wOBA. His 94.6 mph average exit velocity, 53.3% hard-hit rate, and 18.9% barrel rate validate every piece of that production. Paredes owns a .263/.356/.435 line, 14 homers, and a 125 wRC+, while striking out only 15.0% of the time. Chicago’s Colson Montgomery has three homers and seven RBIs across his last ten games. Miguel Vargas and Munetaka Murakami add legitimate pull power behind him, giving Chicago multiple answers against mistakes inside.

Fedde supplies Chicago’s strongest argument because he has allowed eight earned runs across his last five appearances. Still, he completed five innings only twice during that stretch and struck out merely 18 batters. His season contact profile includes an 88.8 mph average exit velocity, 39.5% hard-hit rate, and modest 7.0% barrel rate. Houston’s low-strikeout core can force his sinker, cutter, and sweeper into extended at-bats. Chicago scored five times before Houston’s eight-run sixth Friday, then managed five singles until Saturday’s ninth inning. Blanco’s debut allowed two two-run homers, providing Chicago’s power bats a direct route back into this series. Even an effective Fedde outing likely transfers multiple innings to a bullpen carrying approximately a 4.00 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.

Astros vs. White Sox pick, best bet

Sunday brings approximately 88-degree weather, 61% humidity, a light seven-mph wind, and minimal rain risk. Warm air increases the cost of elevated contact inside a park already friendly to pulled fly balls. Houston has used Josh Hader in consecutive games, while Bryan Abreu handled leverage work throughout the series. Blanco’s expected ceiling therefore points directly toward middle relief before Houston can comfortably reach its preferred closing structure. The Astros’ bullpen owns a roughly 4.15 ERA and has carried the shakier home-run profile between these relief groups. Chicago received six innings from Sean Burke Saturday, preserving several useful relievers for the finale. The quick turnaround after Saturday night could also remove one regular catcher from each starting lineup without eliminating either club’s power core.

Over 9 at -111 offers the cleanest way to capture both the pitching uncertainty and Houston’s offensive form. Nine retains valuable push protection if the game reaches a conventional 5-4 finish. The under requires Blanco to pair strikeouts with cleaner contact while working deeper than Houston has recently allowed. It also asks Fedde’s recent ERA to continue outrunning his 5.15 FIP against Houston’s hottest hitters. Chicago’s moneyline carries appeal through Fedde, but Houston has produced 13 runs and repeatedly controlled this matchup’s decisive innings. Houston’s moneyline still demands trust in a restricted starter and a taxed late-inning hierarchy. The total owns scoring paths through both starters, either middle bullpen, and the afternoon environment.

Best bet: Over 9 at -111, playable through -115

Projected score: Astros 6, White Sox 4

Best bet: White Sox vs. Astros o9.0 total runs (-110)
