Will Montero continue to prove himself upon rejoining the rotation? How productive will Tolle be after Boston shook up its core of young starters? - Detroit Tigers vs. Baltimore Orioles: Tigers RHP Keider Montero 5+ strikeouts: Montero has recorded 5+ K in three straight appearances, notching 8 in his return to the rotation last week, plus he is facing a team that averages the second-most strikeouts per road game across MLB.
- Athletics vs. Boston Red Sox: Red Sox LHP Payton Tolle 6+ strikeouts: Tolle has gone for 6+ K in 9 of 16 starts this season, including 5 of his last 7, while the A’s strikeout rate vs. LHP is 2.5% higher than their mark vs. RHP.
MLB Strikeout Prop Bets Breakdown
Zack Wheeler 8+ K (+112), Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Wheeler has pitched himself into NL Cy Young contention after missing the first month of the regular season, owning a 10-2 record, 2.16 ERA, 0.880 WHIP and 5.1 WAR. His 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings are on pace to be the second-highest mark of his career, as well. In July alone, Wheeler has racked up 43 strikeouts in just 24.2 innings. He has posted 10, 14, 10 and nine strikeouts so far this month, bringing his season-long hit rate on the eight-plus strikeout bet to an even 8-for-16. Going against the Marlins makes the bet even more enticing, too. Wheeler has already faced Miami twice in 2026, lasting 6.0 innings and topping eight strikeouts both times.
Keider Montero 5+ K (-112), Detroit Tigers vs. Baltimore Orioles
Despite the Tigers pulling him in and out of the starting rotation, Montero has had a pretty solid campaign thus far. He just fell two outs short of a quality start his last time out, fresh off an impressive five-appearance run out of the bullpen. He averaged 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings as a reliever in July, carrying that over into eight punchouts in 5.1 innings in his most recent start. On the whole, Montero has posted at least five strikeouts in three straight appearances. He has faced just 14, 12 and 20 batters in that span, too, so it isn’t like he needs a long runway to hit Monday’s line. Baltimore averages the fourth-most strikeouts per game in MLB, as well as the second-most strikeouts per road game, so Montero could wind up mowing guys down back at Comerica Park.
Payton Tolle 6+ K (-127), Athletics vs. Boston Red Sox
Tolle has recorded six-plus strikeouts in three straight starts, despite those outings taking three very different shapes. He had six strikeouts in 6.0 scoreless innings on July 7, then seven strikeouts in 3.2 innings of one-run ball on July 12. Following the All-Star break, Tolle gave up eight hits and four earned runs in 5.2 innings, but still struck out nine. This bet is 9-for-16 on the year now that Tolle has hit six-plus in five of his last seven. The Athletics average the eighth-most strikeouts per game in the big leagues, ranking No. 12 when looking exclusively at home games. The splits are working in Tolle’s favor, too, as their strikeout rate versus lefties is 2.5% higher than their mark against righties.
