Athletics vs. Arizona Diamondbacks prediction, pick for MLB on Monday 7/20/26

Arizona comes home at 51-48 after winning seven of ten and scoring 56 runs during that stretch. The Diamondbacks erased a 7-0 deficit Sunday, matching the largest comeback in franchise history. That victory left them one-half game outside the final National League wild-card position. The Athletics have lost nine of ten and 16 of their last 20. They scored 35 runs across the past ten games, including 15 during Saturday’s outlier. Arizona produced a .245/.314/.428 line, 14 homers, 16 doubles, and 34 walks during the same span. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Athletics and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Athletics vs. Diamondbacks prediction, preview

Jeffrey Springs enters with a 7.95 ERA across his last ten appearances. His six June starts produced a 10.00 ERA, 30 earned runs, and 12 homers across 27 innings. Springs then allowed six runs, two homers, and four walks through 4⅓ innings in Detroit. His last two starts produced 14 hits, 12 earned runs, four homers, eight walks, and six strikeouts. The broader contact remains respectable at 87.8 mph and 34.9% hard hits. However, his 9.9% barrel rate, 17.3-degree launch angle, and 2.40 HR/9 explain the continued damage. Mitch Bratt has walked five of 28 MLB hitters while throwing first-pitch strikes only 46.4% of the time.

Arizona’s recent lefty production has been more contact-driven than explosive. The Diamondbacks have hit .265/.342/.368 across their latest 76 plate appearances against southpaws. They have only one homer in that sample, though the .342 OBP fits Springs’ recent command problems. Ketel Marte owns a .361 xwOBA, 91.1-mph exit velocity, 44.9% hard-hit rate, and 10.6% barrels. Gabriel Moreno carries a .372 xwOBA and 41.9% hard contact. Nolan Arenado homered during Sunday’s comeback, although his .297 xwOBA and .361 xSLG remain warning signs. Max Kepler offers stronger underlying contact through a 48.6% hard-hit rate and 10.8% barrels.

The Athletics can pressure Bratt before Arizona reaches its better relievers. His 23.3% chase rate, 14.5% whiff rate, and 92.7% zone-contact rate show little major-league margin. Shea Langeliers owns a .361 xwOBA, .245 xISO, 91.9-mph contact, and 15.1% barrels. Tyler Soderstrom adds a .345 xwOBA, 45.7% hard hits, and 10.6% barrels. He also hit .284/.408/.543 with six homers during June. The lineup has since lost Nick Kurtz, Brent Rooker, and Zack Gelof. The Athletics have hit .227/.281/.345 against lefties since July 5 and scored twice on 11 hits Sunday.

Diamondbacks vs. Athletics pick, best bet

Arizona’s bullpen covered 7⅓ innings Sunday after Eduardo Rodríguez recorded only eight outs. Drey Jameson threw 42 pitches, while Philip Abner threw 46 before Monday’s demotion. Juan Burgos gives Arizona one fresh bridge option, with Kevin Ginkel, Ryan Thompson, and Juan Morillo behind him. Oakland’s relief group carries the sharper recent concern. Athletics relievers own a 13.89 ERA across 11⅔ innings during the past seven days. Springs has averaged barely five innings per start and rarely protects that bullpen from extended work. Chase Field’s closed roof removes the outdoor heat, leaving Arizona’s matchup advantages untouched by weather.

Arizona has scored at least six runs six times during its current ten-game surge. Springs has allowed 20 homers to right-handed hitters and owns a .369 xwOBA with his four-seamer. His recent command collapse also creates baserunners before Arizona reaches Oakland’s damaged bullpen. Diamondbacks over 4.5 carries a steep -135 price around Corbin Carroll’s uncertain availability. The full-game over asks too much from Oakland’s depleted lineup and Arizona’s stronger late relievers. Arizona team total over 5.5 at +120 offers the better return on its current offensive form.

Best bet: Diamondbacks team total over 5.5 at +120. Playable to +110.

Projected score: Diamondbacks 6, Athletics 4.

Best bet: Diamondbacks TT o5.5 runs (+120) at Athletics
