It’s time to kick things into gear for the second half of the MLB season. The All-Star break is behind us, and all 30 teams are ready to go for the stretch run. That also means we have some award races to settle. Let’s check in on the race for the American League MVP and look at the current odds to win the award.
Here are the updated AL MVP odds on the DraftKings Sportsbook:
Yordan Alvarez has a commanding lead at -165. He leads the AL in home runs and RBIs and is second in the batting title race. Alvarez could become the first AL batter to win the Triple Crown since Miguel Cabrera in 2012, and the second MLB batter in the last 50 years. Junior Caminero, one of the hottest hitters in baseball, is just behind him at +450. Bobby Witt Jr. comes in third and leads the AL in fWAR. Behind that leading trio is a duo of big-time first base sluggers in Ben Rice and Nick Kurtz. After that, we have a bunch of long shots with little chance of winning the award.
The race between Alvarez, Caminero, and Witt figures to be a heater down to the finish. Will voters lean towards Caminero if the Rays can win the AL East? Can Alvarez push for the Triple Crown, or will he fade down the stretch, combined with the Astros’ mediocrity, to sink him?
