Connecticut Sun vs. Dallas Wings prediction, pick for Thursday 7/2/26

The Sun are hosting the Wings on Thursday. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Dallas is favored by 7.5 points and this game carries a total of 171.5 points.

Let’s get into my pick and prediction for this contest.

Sun vs. Wings Preview

After finishing 11-33 last season, the Sun are having another poor season in 2026. The team is a league-worst 4-15 and ranks dead-last in net rating. Connecticut is the worst rated offense in the league and it’s defense has been subpar, ranking ninth in rating.

However, the Sun enter this matchup vs. the Wings as winners of back-to-back games, which is their first winning streak of the season. Connecticut destroyed the Sky, 92-63, then the Sun beat the Mystics, 68-57, both of which were home games for Connecticut. The win over Washington came last Friday, too, so the team is well rested for tonight’s matchup vs. the Wings. This is the first meeting of the season between these clubs.

The Sun were well balanced in these past two victories, with five players reaching double-figures in each win, and their defense was excellent, holding their opponents to 28.1% shooting. So what has been the difference? Well, Aneesah Morrow hurt her leg nine minutes into the first tilt and then she was out for the second game. Morrow is averaging 11.0 PPG and she has had some strong scoring performances this season, but she ranks second-to-last in plus/minus for the team, and Connecticut’s net rating is 8.8 points per 100 possessions better with her off the floor.

The Sun clearly fare better without Morrow, but she has been removed from the injury report and will return tonight. Morrow was moved to the bench recently, and she has only seen around 20 minutes per game as of late, but her returning could hurt the team’s flow. There is a chance, though, that the Sun’s coaching staff is aware of the team’s splits without Morrow and she doesn’t play much tonight. Hopefully, they’ll continue to let Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Brittney Griner and Leila Lacan lead way vs. Dallas.

The Wings are 11-8 and rank seventh in net rating, but Dallas has dropped two games in a row. These losses were against tough opponents, losing to the defending champion Aces last Thursday, 99-84, and then to the top-seeded Lynx this past Sunday, 85-77.

Before this, the Wings had won four of their previous six. Dallas has a strong core of Paige Bueckers, Jessica Sheppard and Azzi Fudd. Bueckers is one of the top scorers in the WNBA, averaging 19.9 PPG and Sheppard is a great force inside, averaging a double-double of 14.3 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Fudd is averaging 13.8 PPG and the No. 1 pick’s defense has also been excellent, leading Dallas with 1.8 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.

The Wings just sometimes show their age and lack of experience, especially when away from Dallas, as the club is 5-5 on the road, compared to 6-3 at home. The Wings are clearly the more talented team over the Sun, but Dallas’ road woes combined with Connecticut in the midst of a winning streak should result in this being an interesting matchup.

Sun vs. Wings Pick, Best Bet

The Wings haven’t lost three games in a row this season and they should get back on track with a victory over the Sun tonight. However, Dallas’ issues on the road are real and it’s hard to have faith in them covering this 7.5-point spread, as the club is just 4-6 ATS on the road this season.

Connecticut, on the other hand, is a decent 5-5 ATS at home and the team has three extra days of rest in it’s favor over Dallas. Despite Morrow returning, which could cause some hiccups, I like the Sun’s chances of covering on their home floor.

Best Bet: Sun +7.5 (-108)
