Los Angeles has controlled the first two nights in West Sacramento with the casual menace of a heavyweight. The Dodgers won 9-4 on Monday, then 9-3 on Tuesday, stacking 18 runs, 31 hits, and constant traffic against an Athletics staff already thin at home. Shohei Ohtani, Max Muncy, Miguel Rojas, Tommy Edman, and Andy Pages have all supplied damage during the series. Edman erupted Tuesday with four hits, four RBI, and another loud reminder that this lineup rarely needs its stars alone. The Athletics enter the finale on a four-game losing streak, injured and diminished, yet the pitching change rewrites the shape. Ohtani’s start moved to Friday, leaving Los Angeles with a bullpen game in a warm, loud park. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Athletics and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Athletics vs. Dodgers prediction, preview
Charlie Barnes is expected to open, and his profile gives the Athletics a clear scoring lane. Barnes has thrown only five MLB innings this season, with a 5.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, 8.0% strikeout rate, and 16.0% walk rate. The underlying numbers are worse: 5.74 xERA, 5.31 FIP, and 6.80 xFIP. His Triple-A work adds little comfort, with 27 innings, a 5.53 xERA, 5.33 FIP, and 5.01 xFIP. The Dodgers did get a gift from Justin Wrobleski on Tuesday, when he covered seven innings and struck out 11. That helped the bullpen sheet. It still leaves Los Angeles asking multiple relievers to cover Wednesday during a 13-day stretch without an off day.
The Athletics’ lineup has taken real punches, with Jacob Wilson, Tyler Soderstrom, Zack Gelof, and Brent Rooker unavailable. That removes Wilson’s .277 average, Soderstrom’s 13 homers, and Gelof’s .282, 11-homer burst since his recall. The remaining power still fits this exact bet. Nick Kurtz owns 19 HR, 64 RBI, seven steals, a .276/.421/.516 slash, .240 ISO, .403 wOBA, and 157 wRC+. His 19.5% walk rate pairs neatly against Barnes’ shaky command. Shea Langeliers adds 19 HR, a .263/.329/.489 line, .226 ISO, .353 wOBA, and 122 wRC+. Colby Thomas just hit a 104.9 mph, 424-foot, 35-degree homer Tuesday. Five Athletics runs can come from walks, power, and a Dodgers bullpen inning that loses the zone.
JT Ginn is the main reason the Dodgers’ early-inning prices look inflated. Ginn enters 6-4 with a 3.15 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 78 strikeouts, 36 walks, and nine homers allowed across 88.2 innings. His deeper line holds up better than the Athletics logo suggests: 21.2% strikeout rate, 9.8% walk rate, 0.91 HR/9, .220 average allowed, 4.02 FIP, and 4.17 xFIP. The contact sheet is sturdy, with an 87.3 mph average exit velocity, 36.0% hard-hit rate, 6.0% barrel rate, .293 wOBA, and .309 xwOBA. Los Angeles can still solve him with enough pressure. The first-five angle asks too much against a credible starter at a taxed price.
Dodgers vs. Athletics pick, best bet
The Dodgers’ offense keeps the full-game total live from every direction. Ohtani brings 18 HR, six steals, a .296/.412/.542 slash, .246 ISO, .405 wOBA, and 159 wRC+. Muncy adds 17 HR, a .265/.361/.512 line, .246 ISO, .378 wOBA, and 141 wRC+. Freddie Freeman sits at 13 HR, .293/.382/.494, .381 wOBA, and 143 wRC+. Pages adds 16 HR, eight steals, a .271/.329/.479 line, and 122 wRC+. Edman has hit .395/.452/.579 since returning from the injured list. The Athletics’ staff brings a 5.02 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and .265 opponent average, with a 6.11 home ERA at Sutter Health Park. That keeps Dodgers team total 6.5 alive, especially after Ginn exits.
The environment supports a crooked box score. West Sacramento sits around 82 degrees at first pitch, with clear skies, dry air, and no weather interruption expected. This series has already produced 25 combined runs, and the park has played small enough to punish ordinary bullpen mistakes. The Dodgers remain the better team, and their offense can absolutely carry another win. The sharper angle attacks Los Angeles’ pitching pivot, the Athletics’ remaining power, and a plus-money number that does not require an upset.
The best bet is Athletics team total over 4.5 (+100), playable to -115. The top alternate is over 11 (-107).
Projected score: Dodgers 7, Athletics 5.
Best bet: Athletics TT o4.5 runs (+100) vs. Dodgers
