A clash between contenders is on tap this evening in Wisconsin. The Yankees (26-12) look like clear-cut favorites in the American League. New York, buoyed by an elite pitching staff, is one of four Junior Circuit squads with a record above .500. In the NL Central, the Brewers (19-16) remain one of baseball’s most consistent clubs. Milwaukee will look to make a statement tonight in this potential World Series preview.
The Yankees are favorites (-126) over the Brewers, with the over/under set at 7.5 runs. Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Friday’s showdown between New York and Milwaukee on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Yankees vs. Brewers prediction, preview
On paper, this has all the makings of an epic pitcher’s duel. For the visiting Pinstripes, it’ll be Max Fried on the mound. Now in year two with the club, New York’s ace is the definition of consistency. Through 52.2 innings of work in 2026, he owns a 2.39 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 43 strikeouts. The former Braves hurler is no stranger to this matchup, having spent eight years in the National League. He owns a career 2.84 ERA during six meetings with the Brewers. Surprisingly, Fried has been much better on the road (0.86 ERA) than at home (5.71 ERA) this season. That’s a good sign heading into a game at pitcher-friendly American Family Field.
With that being said, navigating this Milwaukee lineup could prove difficult. Four different active regulars have a wRC+ above 100 this season. The absence of Christian Yelich (groin) looms large, but Jackson Chourio was reinstated off of the injured list on Monday. Since making his return, the outfielder has racked up six hits in just nine at-bats (.667 BA). Still, Fried presents a notable matchup issue tonight. The Brewers own an NL-worst .610 OPS against left-handed pitching. On the other hand, they rank third in baseball with 5.67 runs per game at home.
Toeing the slab for Milwaukee on Friday will be none other than Jacob Misiorowski. The second-year pro hasn’t had much time in the majors, but he’s already an elite strikeout artist. In addition to a 2.84 ERA and 1.00 WHIP, The Miz leads baseball with a 14.0 K/9 ratio. He’ll face arguably his biggest test of the season tonight against a loaded Yankees lineup. However, while this group packs a punch, they are free swingers. New York has struck out 324 times so far, tenth-most in the league. On the other hand, Misiorowski is sometimes his own worst enemy. If the righty struggles with command, this disciplined Yankees offense is willing to settle for a walk.
Speaking of New York, it’s been quite the run over the past few weeks. The Bronx Bombers have won 15 of their last 18 games. Two of those losses came against Texas’ Nathan Eovaldi, a pitcher that always seems to have their number. Still, we’ve seen the Yankees perform well against other All-Star hurlers such as Jacob deGrom, Cole Ragans, and George Kirby. A lefty-laden lineup might be able to hammer one against Misiorowski as well. NY has clubbed 39 homers against righties this season, third-most in the majors.
Yankees vs. Brewers pick, best bet
In many ways, this feels like a trap. After all, the Brewers are sending out a quality offense and a budding ace tonight. However, New York has been far better against righties than lefties this season. It’s a different story for Milwaukee, a squad that has looked shaky all year against southpaws. This isn’t just any lefty either; it’s Max Fried. Given the way the Yankees have been playing lately, fade them at your own risk.
