For the largest purse of the season at $25 million, we head to TPC Sawgrass (par 72, 7,352 yards, POA trivialis greens) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, for THE PLAYERS Championship. TPC Sawgrass was designed by Pete Dye and has been the home of THE PLAYERS Championship since 1982. Rory McIlory (-12) won this event last season and for this week, there will be 121 golfers competing and a top-65 and ties cut after the first two rounds.
Below, I have featured my two favorite bets for THE PLAYERS Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Ludvig Aberg to win (+2700)
Aberg’s season got off to a rough start. After withdrawing from the American Express with an illness following the second round, he missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open the next week. However, Aberg has turned a corner since, improving in each of his last three starts, finishing T-37, T-20 and T-3. All three of these were Signature Events that featured the PGA TOUR’s best players competing for a $20 million purse, and Aberg gained strokes across the board at the latter two tournaments.
That T-3 came at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational and at Bay Hill, the Swede ranked third in SG APP. Aberg also shot a 6-under 66 in the first round and a 5-under 67 in the final round. The two-time PGA TOUR winner now heads to TPC Sawgrass, which is a home game for Aberg, as he has lived in Ponte Vedra Beach since 2024. Aberg plays TPC Sawgrass often and being able to reside at his own home for this week’s event is obviously a big plus. Aberg missed the cut at TPC Sawgrass last season, but he finished eighth in his debut at the course the year prior and him capturing his third win here would be very fitting.
Adam Scott to win (+5900)
Scott is playing well right now and overdue for a win. The 14-time PGA TOUR winner has made 14 cuts in a row worldwide and four of his last seven have been top-12 finishes. While gaining strokes both on approach and with his putter, Scott has finished fourth at the Genesis Invitational and T-11 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in his last two starts. Seeing both Scott’s irons and putter clicking at the same time is a terrific sign that he is ready to win again.
Scott ranks 11th in total strokes gained this season and he owns an impressive, long resume at TPC Sawgrass. Scott won at the par 72 in 2004 and he has carded 10 top-20 finishes at this Dye design. Overall, Scott has made 18-of-23 cuts at TPC Sawgrass. The Aussie has won twice in Florida and Scott is worth investing in at these odds.
