The California Golden Bears are in Atlanta to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. ET in an ACC showdown. This season, the Golden Bears are 20-9 and 8-8 in the ACC, while the Yellow Jackets are 11-18 overall and last in the conference with a 2-14 record.

This season, California has averaged 77.7 points per game but is coming off a poor offensive performance, scoring only 56 against Pittsburgh. That was a bit of an outlier, as Cal has shown their offensive potential in ACC play. Before their recent loss, the Golden Bears won three straight games against SMU, Stanford, and Boston College. California hasn’t suffered back-to-back losses since February 11.
Dai Dai Ames is their leading scorer, averaging 16.4 points per game, but recorded only 11 and two in their last two contests. Justin Pippen, the Michigan transfer, is having an overall good season, scoring 14.7 points per game, but has scored just seven points in two of his last three games. California is led by its starting backcourt of Ames and Pippen and needs them to get back on track against Georgia Tech.
Good news for Cal is that they face Georgia Tech, which is currently on a 10-game losing streak and has struggled mightily in ACC play. The Yellow Jackets score 74 points per contest, the third fewest in the ACC, while allowing the third most points to opponents (77.4) in the conference. They have scored 72 or fewer in their previous six games, including two performances under 70. Georgia Tech’s only two double-digit scorers are Kowacie Reeves Jr. and Baye Ndongo. Reeves, a senior forward, averages 14.8 points and 3.7 boards per game.
Georgia Tech’s last six losses have come by at least nine points, and all 18 of their losses this season have been by four-plus points. In the first Cal vs. Georgia Tech matchup of the season, the Golden Bears picked up the victory by five points. Ames went off for 29 points in that contest while four other players for California scored at least 10 points. The Golden Bears’ last four wins have come by at least four points. California has the deeper roster and should be able to take advantage against a lesser-talented Georgia Tech team.
