UNLV Runnin’ Rebels vs. Nevada Wolf Pack prediction, pick for NCAAM on Saturday 2/28/26

Nevada and UNLV drag this rivalry into the late window with almost no separation on the board, which is exactly why the bet has to be about shape. Nevada walks in at 19-9 and 11-6 in the Mountain West, still chasing placement near the top tier, while UNLV sits at 14-14 and 9-8, dangerous enough to turn this into a real fight but inconsistent enough to keep leaving points on the table. The first meeting wasn’t quite ambiguous. Nevada won 89-76 in Reno, led for 97% of the night, and never let the Rebels dictate the rhythm. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels and the Nevada Wolf Pack.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

UNLV vs. Nevada prediction, preview

The Wolf Pack average 75.8 points while allowing 71.5, they turn it over only 9.9 times per game, they own a 1.5 assist-to-turnover ratio, and they shoot 75.5% at the line. UNLV scores more at 79.4 per game, but it also gives back 78.8, turns it over 11.8 times a night, and shoots just 69.1% at the stripe. That is the whole tension in one snapshot: UNLV can create louder scoring bursts, but Nevada is the steadier team when the game tightens and every trip starts to matter. The Wolf Pack do not need a heater to stay afloat. The Rebels often do.

Nevada’s core is built to age better over 40 minutes. Corey Camper Jr. is the headliner at 17.8 points a game, and his efficiency is sharp, 48.2% from the floor and 43.6% from three overall, then 19.0 points a night with 46.7% from deep in conference play. Elijah Price is the stabilizer at 13.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks, and that conference line climbs to 13.8 points, 9.6 boards, and 33 blocks in 17 league games. Tayshawn Comer gives Nevada a real organizer with 106 assists against 55 turnovers overall. UNLV’s answer is rawer but explosive. Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn is the best pure scorer on the floor at 20.3 points a game, and his conference numbers jump to 22.8 on 53.5% shooting and 47.5% from three. Kimani Hamilton adds 12.6 points, Tyrin Jones brings 11.3 points and 1.9 blocks, and Howie Fleming Jr. fills gaps at 9.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 90 assists. Nevada has the cleaner four-man structure. UNLV has the most dangerous one-man takeover path.

And while Nevada’s offense has not been humming every night, but the Wolf Pack have already shown they can win sturdy games against real teams in this exact stretch. They beat Utah State 80-77, then turned around and beat New Mexico 67-60. In that New Mexico win, Price went for 21 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks, while Camper and Vaughn Weems added 20 apiece. Even the ugly recent loss at San Jose State, 87-71, still featured Camper with 18 and Price with 14 and seven. UNLV’s recent shape is louder and looser. The Rebels dropped a 91-86 home game to Colorado State despite 31 points from Gibbs-Lawhorn, then rolled Air Force 91-66 behind 27 from Hamilton, then got punched 80-67 at Grand Canyon. That tells the story cleanly. UNLV’s offense can catch fire in a hurry, but the defensive floor keeps wobbling, and that is a bad habit.

Nevada vs. UNLV pick, best bet

Gibbs-Lawhorn is hot enough to bend the whole game by himself, and UNLV has enough shooting around him to keep a short number uncomfortable all night. The first meeting even carried that warning inside Nevada’s win. UNLV still shot 42% from three and Gibbs-Lawhorn still scored 26, but Nevada buried the Rebels anyway because it was better everywhere that tends to matter late: 20 assists against seven turnovers, a 36-24 edge in the paint, and 19-10 in points off turnovers. That is the exact reason I do not want the spread. Nevada can be the right side again and still spend the final two minutes inside one possession if UNLV’s shotmaking holds. This feels much more like a composure game than a separation game.

Nevada moneyline is the play. The Wolf Pack have the cleaner backcourt math, the better free-throw floor, the more trustworthy rebounding spine, and the better chance to own the last five minutes when the game finally turns from pace into poise. The way it dies is obvious: Gibbs-Lawhorn gets nuclear, UNLV turns this into a whistle game, and Nevada’s road offense stalls just long enough to hand the floor to the home scorer. But all signs still point to Nevada being the side with fewer self-inflicted mistakes and more stable late-game answers.

Nevada 77, UNLV 74.

Best bet: Nevada (-120) at UNLV
