Prediction, pick for Emanuel Navarrete vs. Eduardo Nunez

It’s double or nothing on Saturday night, as WBO champion Emanuel Navarrete faces IBF champion Eduardo Nunez in a super featherweight (junior lightweight) world title unification bout in Glendale, Arizona.

Navarrete (39–2–1, 32 KOs) will attempt to prove he still has gas in the tank following a recent stretch of underwhelming performances, capped by a deflating no-contest against Charly Suarez last May. Nunez (29–1, 27 KOs) looks to build off his first career title defense — a unanimous decision over Christopher Diaz in September — and showcase his thunderous power in the stiffest test of his career.

Who will be crowned the next King of Mexico?

The main card is set for 9 p.m. ET from Desert Diamond Arena. Nunez enters as a -175 moneyline favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, while Navarrete sits as a +145 underdog. The total is set at 10.5 rounds.

Navarrete vs. Nunez Preview

Emanuel Navarrete

Emanuel Navarrete hasn’t looked like himself lately.

The three-division world champion is reeling from a recent stretch of questionable performances, which arguably began when he captured the WBO super featherweight crown against Liam Wilson in February 2023. Before eventually stopping Wilson in the ninth round, “Vaquero” hit the canvas for the first — and only — time in his career during the fourth. He struggled to his feet with the aid of a controversial long count that lasted over 20 seconds.

Later that year, he fought to a draw with Robson Conceicao, then dropped a split-decision to Denys Berinchyk for the vacant WBO lightweight belt in May 2024. After knocking out Oscar Valdez in the sixth round of their December 2024 rematch, Navarrete’s controversial eighth-round TKO over Charly Suarez last May got overturned to a no-contest.

However, Navarrete remains the No. 2-ranked super featherweight in the world for a reason. Still just 31, “Vaquero” is incredibly seasoned at the world level, capable of neutralizing multiple styles with his massive frame, awkward movements, and devastating power. Impressively, he’s yet to lose a bout at 130 pounds.

Eduardo Nunez

If you’re searching for fireworks, look no further than Eduardo Nunez.

The 28-year-old fan-favorite boasts a 93% knockout rate, with 27 of his 29 professional wins coming by stoppage. But he’s far more than just a one-punch threat — he weaponizes a bottomless gas tank, suffocating opponents with relentless pressure before delivering the decisive blow.

“Sugar” Nunez, the No. 4-ranked super featherweight in the world, enters Saturday night riding a 19-fight winning streak dating back to August 2018.

However, while Nunez has excelled at keeping his opponents on the back foot, he may have to get comfortable doing some backpedaling of his own on Saturday night. He has already shown a more restrained style on the world stage — capturing the vacant IBF title against Masanori Rikiishi last May via unanimous decision before defending it against Christopher Diaz in September on points.

Entering what should be the toughest test of his career, Nunez will likely need to showcase a new dimension to his game against Navarrete.

Navarrete vs. Nunez Pick, Best Bet

Rarely does a three-division world champion enter a fight as a betting underdog. When it happens, it’s best to embrace a carpe diem philosophy.

Navarrete may be coming off a string of uneven performances, but he remains one of the most battle-tested super featherweights in the sport. And at 31, he’s still firmly in his prime.

His awkward, high-volume style — bolstered by a lanky frame and wrecking-ball power — should keep Nunez guessing and fighting off his back foot, a stark contrast to his trademark “all gas, no breaks” approach.

Expect the seasoned veteran to control the ring, dictate the tempo, and leave Glendale, Arizona, with two belts around his waist.

Best Bet: Emanuel Navarrete Moneyline (+145)
