Tennessee Volunteers vs. Ole Miss Rebels prediction, pick for NCAAM on Tuesday 2/03/26

Tennessee walks into February ranked and hunting leverage in the SEC race, because every home night now carries seeding weight. Ole Miss arrives needing a response, not a moral victory, after the league has started to squeeze. Thompson-Boling is the kind of room that turns a three-minute wobble into a ten-point gap. This matchup also carries that familiar conference tension, where physicality gets rewarded and pace gets negotiated. The only question is whether Ole Miss can keep this close long enough to make the late minutes matter. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for tonight’s college basketball game between the Tennessee Volunteers and the Ole Miss Rebels.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Tennessee vs. Ole Miss prediction, preview

The math gives Tennessee the cleaner shape on both ends, even before the rebounding edge shows up. Tennessee’s offense sits at 1.144 points per possession, and its defense sits at 0.969 allowed. Ole Miss lives closer to the middle band at 1.067 on offense and 1.016 allowed. The shot quality difference is subtle on offense, but sharp on defense, with Tennessee holding opponents to a 46.9% eFG. Tennessee also strangles threes at 29.8% allowed, which matters against an Ole Miss team that wants perimeter volume. The tempo isn’t slow enough to hide mistakes, with both teams living around the low-70s in possessions. Recent form adds confidence to the favorite, not doubt, because Tennessee has banked statement wins and looked composed late. Ole Miss just played a game that got loose defensively, and it cannot offer that again here.

Ja’Kobi Gillespie (G) runs Tennessee like a metronome, and his 18.6 points plus 5.9 assists create steady paint touches. Nate Ament (F) gives Tennessee a second creator at 16.6 points and 6.7 rebounds, which keeps the offense from getting predictable. Chaz Lanier (G) supplies spacing at 13.7 points, and that gravity opens the floor for cuts and crashers. Felix Okpara (C) sits at seven rebounds, but his value is the second shot and the intimidation at the rim. Ole Miss has real answers, but they need to arrive in the right order. A.J. Storr (G) is the shot-maker at 14.0 points, and he has to win tough possessions against set defense. Malik Dia (F) brings the cleanest scoring floor at 13.8 points and 8.4 rebounds, and his physicality matters against Tennessee’s glass. Moussa Cisse (C) gives Ole Miss another 7.7 rebounds, and he has to finish possessions with two hands. Ole Miss can survive if it keeps its spacing intact and avoids empty trips.

Ole Miss vs. Tennessee pick, best bet

Ole Miss travels, and can make this a cover with ball security and late-game conversion. Ole Miss turns it over on just 12.5% of plays, which is the classic way to shrink a favorite’s margin. Ole Miss also shoots 74.1% at the line, while Tennessee sits at 68.6%, and that gap matters at -11.5. Ole Miss also takes threes at a 37.5% rate, and Tennessee allows a high three-attempt share, even while suppressing makes. If Ole Miss hits an ordinary shooting night and avoids live-ball mistakes, it can hang around on volume alone. The refutation is that Tennessee owns the most reliable margin engine in the game. Tennessee’s offensive rebounding rate is a massive 44.1%, and second shots are the quickest way to break a spread open. Tennessee also creates more disruption, with a 9.6% steal rate, and Ole Miss cannot float passes here. If Tennessee strings together stops, it can turn one miss into two points and one turnover into three.

So I’m taking Ole Miss +11.5, because the number asks Tennessee to win big in a game with backdoor DNA. Tennessee can absolutely control this game, but control is not the same thing as separation. Ole Miss’s turnover profile keeps the possession count honest, and its free-throw shooting gives it a late-game floor. The total at 137.5 also sits in an interesting spot, because the pace lives around the low-70s and both teams live at the line. Still, Tennessee’s defensive ceiling and three-point suppression can turn possessions into long droughts. I’m staying disciplined and playing the points, because that edge does not require perfect shooting.

Tennessee should lean into physical offensive rebounding and rim pressure, because that 44.1% ORB rate can manufacture margin without hot shooting. Tennessee should also switch and pressure into late-clock jumpers, because it holds opponents to 29.8% from three. Ole Miss should answer by spacing four-out looks around Dia and letting Storr hunt mismatches, because it needs clean threes and free throws. Ole Miss also has to protect the ball with purpose, because empty trips are the fastest way to let the building take over. Tennessee likely wins the game, but the late minutes favor the team that makes free throws.

I’m riding Ole Miss +11.5, with a playable range to +10.5. Predicted score: Tennessee 74, Ole Miss 66.

Best bet: Ole Miss +11.5 (-110) at Tennessee
