Providence Friars vs. Marquette Golden Eagles College Basketball prediction, preview

All eyes in college sports will be on the National Championship between Indiana and Miami on the gridiron on Monday night, but we do have some early college hoops games to occupy us.

Both Providence and Marquette played on Friday night, with the Friars taking down Creighton at home, and Marquette losing on the road to DePaul. If you’ve been following my college hoops work this season, your know the Golden Eagles are close to auto-fade territory, until they prove us wrong.

After losing to DePaul, Marquette now sits 6-13 on the season, including a pathetic 4-14-1 ATS. Fading the Golden Eagles as an underdog and/or on the road has been the best play, as they haven’t won a game away from home or as a dog all season. But even in a game priced around a coin flip, we can find plenty of reasons to continue fading.

Marquette is just 6-4 outright when favored this season, and 2-8 ATS in those games (failing to cover by an average of 6.5 points). The Golden Eagles are also just 3-8 ATS at home this season. Providence’s last road game didn’t go very well, losing by 13 points at Xavier, but it was a tough spot coming off a game that the Friars really should’ve beaten UConn — but went on to lose in overtime.

Prior to that, the Friars have shown some grit on the road in Big East play, losing at Butler by three points in double overtime, and pulling a massive upset at Saint John’s. Providence is simply a much better team right now, and until Marquette can shown consistent improvements, I’ll continue to fade.

CBB Pick: Providence ML (-105)
