Anthony Edwards is battling a strange injury that is set to keep him out of tonight’s matchup with the Houston Rockets.
Edwards has been ruled out for tonight’s matchup with a foot issue and is considered day-to-day moving forward.
ESPN’s Shams Charania provided some more context on Friday, saying this is an infection issue in the Timberwolves star’s right foot. More specifically, it is a re-infection in a toe that first popped up in December and caused him to miss 11 days or three games. He was also sidelined for the Wolves’ last matchup on Tuesday vs. the Milwaukee Bucks.
This is a huge hit to the Timberwolves in the short-term and will be something they want to ensure does not bleed into the long-term outlook. Edwards is the clear franchise centerpiece and continues to improve year in and year out. The three-time All-Star is averaging a career-high 28.9 points along with 5.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists, all while shooting 40.9% from beyond the three-point arc.
Edwards has suited up for 33 of Minnesota’s 41 games thus far, helping lead them to a 27-14 record so far. While plenty of attention is paid to teams like the Spurs, Nuggets, and Thunder, the Timberwolves remain in fourth place in the conference and are coming off back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances.
Looking at the odds for this season on DraftKings Sportsbook, Minnesota holds the eighth-best odds of winning the NBA Finals at +2800 and the fifth-best odds of winning the Western Conference at +1500.
In the shorter-term odds for tonight’s matchup, the Rockets are 4.5-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook without Edwards available. Minnesota holds +142 odds of pulling off the outright upset with the game total set at 221.5.
