That means Simpson will need to attack the Georgia secondary, which ranks 55th nationally in defensive drop back success rate. Simpson played well in the regular-season matchup, throwing for 275 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. If Simpson wants to replicate that performance, he will need the help of his top target, Germie Bernard.
Germie Bernard has turned into a superstar this season. He was forced to live in Ryan Williams’ shadow last season, but Williams has suffered from a sophomore slump, while Bernard has taken his game to another level. He leads the Crimson Tide in receptions and receiving yards on the season, averaging over 63 receiving yards per game. Almost anytime that Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb want to use a unique formation or trick play, it involves Bernard. For this huge conference title game, they should have plays like that up their sleeve. Bernard is capable of getting over the top of this Georgia defense, turning a screen into a big play, or just racking up receptions across the middle of the field. This diversity of ways to make an impact makes him a great bet to have at least 60 receiving yards in the SEC Championship Game.
