The New York Knicks will travel to Miami to face the Heat for a 6:00 p.m. ET matchup on the Sunday slate. But Karl-Anthony Towns headlines the injury report and is listed as questionable with a quad injury. Mitchell Robinson has been ruled out for injury management while Josh Hart is probable with a back issue and Deuce McBride is questionable for personal reasons.
Towns revealed to reporters he is dealing with a Grade 2 quad strain to start the year. Leading up to the season-opening matchup against the Cavaliers, the five-time All-Star was initially listed as questionable before being downgraded to doubtful in the afternoon. An hour later, he was upgraded to questionable once again and ended up suiting up and playing.
New York is 2-0 to start the season with Towns being active for both games. He is averaging 22.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists across his first two games playing under Mike Brown.
While this does not appear to be a major injury that the organization is overly concerned with, it is not ideal for the Knicks star to deal with a nagging issue this early in the season. Towns has proven willing and able to play through the issue to this point, but at some point the organization may prioritize giving the 7-footer some rest. The Knicks hold championship aspirations in a wide-open Eastern Conference and the true grind of the season is just getting started.
How much the Knicks want to risk the short-term outlook is to be determined. For the time being, he is listed as questionable for the Sunday matchup against the Heat.
