With Rashee Rice suspended for the first six games of the season, Hollywood Brown ($5,800 for Showdown) will once again operate as the Chiefs’ No. 2 WR. However, in this same exact situation last season, the veteran struggled to make an impact for Kansas City.
Brown played five games for the Chiefs last season and he only produced 5.6 FPTS per game, despite Rice being inactive for all these contests. Brown never cracked double-digit FPTS and he went scoreless in one of these tilts. These results are especially disappointing when you analyze his usage, which was strong, as Brown saw a target on 25% of his routes while running a route on 59% of his team’s dropbacks.
Brown only hauled in 50% of his targets, which was very puzzling with the great Patrick Mahomes ($10,000 for Showdown) as his quarterback. Mahomes and Brown clearly weren’t on the same page most of the time and overall, Brown averaged a pathetic 0.17 FPTS per snap for the season.
Mahomes notoriously likes to spread the ball around to his pass catchers and expecting he and Brown to have some newfound chemistry for this Friday’s season opener vs. the Chargers is unreasonable. To make matters worse, this is a tough matchup, as Los Angeles gave up the third-fewest yards per pass last season (6.3).
Brown finishing with single-digit FPTS is likely in this difficult spot and sitting him this week is wise, unless desperate.
