SP Hunter Greene, Reds @ Angels; $9,000
Last night, I called my shot with Trevor Rogers in this segment. He responded with a cool 28.75 fantasy points, so I’m trying to will a similar outing into existence with Hunter Greene on Tuesday evening. The Reds’ star right-hander returned from injury back on August 13 and posted 27.7 points against the Phillies with a scoreless outing in which he allowed just three hits and struck out six. The rate stats look good with a 2.47 ERA and 0.93 WHIP through 12 appearances this season, plus 79 punchouts across 65.2 innings. Against an Angels lineup that strikes out plenty and ranks 25th in batting average since the All-Star Game, there’s plenty to like about Greene, especially at this price point.
OF Jarren Duran, Red Sox vs. Orioles; $5,000
We’re heading to Fenway Park as the Red Sox take on the Orioles this evening. Outfielder Jarren Duran has provided some pretty consistent fantasy value in recent weeks and averages 8.9 FPPG with a .263/.337/.455 slash line to go along with 71 runs, 69 RBI and 12 homers. Against the Orioles in particular though, Duran boasts 10.4 FPPG with a .314 average and .848 OPS over the course of eight games. He posted 11, 14 and 13 points across his last three contests and sees positive splits against right-hander Tomoyuki Sugano (4.13 ERA, 1.28 WHIP) as well. Duran looks like a very solid pick as a staple of the outfield tonight.
C Samuel Basallo, Orioles @ Red Sox; $3,000
Something I’ve enjoyed this season is trying to find younger players who could make a difference within their first few MLB games. Brice Matthews and Warming Bernabel were a couple of players who got a shout to varying degrees of success, and now an Orioles rookie could serve as a difference-maker tonight if you’re willing to take the risk. Catcher Samuel Basallo has just two big-league appearances under his belt but tallied nine and 14 points in those games with three hits (one for a double), a run and four RBI over the tiny sample. The rookie slashed .293/.404/.628 with 19 homers against right-handers at the Triple-A level, plus he sees a positive matchup against righty Walker Buehler (5.43 ERA, 1.55 WHIP) this evening. Again, there’s some risk involved with this play but the salary remains very affordable with high upside if Basallo can perform again tonight. We’re talking about big-time lineup differentiation.
