Year one of the Mike Macdonald era went better than expected, as the Seahawks far surpassed their preseason win total of 7.5 by going 10-7. But considering Seattle went 2-5 against playoff teams โ and 0-7 against the spread in those games โ their record may not have told the whole story.
And with so many changes coming on offense, there are even more questions heading into 2025. Replacing quarterback Geno Smith, receiver DK Metcalf and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb with Sam Darnold, Cooper Kupp and Klint Kubiak could go in either direction, although the expectations have taken a tick up year-over-year.
Seahawks Win Total
DraftKings Sportsbook currently has the Seahawksโ 2025 win total sitting at 8.5. There is a slight public lean on the over, with 55% of the bets going that way, but only 47% of the handle.
Seattleโs +150 odds To Make the Playoffs also donโt seem to be particularly attractive, either, as that bet has accounted for the eighth-lowest handle across the league.
Sam Darnold Futures Splits
Darnold was viewed as a generational draft bust prior to his time with the Minnesota Vikings, having already washed out with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers. Kubiak was the 49ersโ passing game coordinator when Darnold was a backup in San Francisco in 2023, though, so he could hold the key to unlocking the 28-year-old again.
After throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns in Minnesota in 2024, Darnold heads into 2025 with his Regular Season Passing Yards line set at 3,400.5 and his Regular Season Passing TDs line set at 20.5.
Darnold had never exceeded those numbers in his first six NFL seasons, so it isnโt shocking to see some hesitance on taking the overs. While 78% of the bets are on Darnold to exceed 20.5 passing touchdowns, the sharps seem to be avoiding it with only 11% of the handle on that side. There is even less confidence in his ability to rack up yards among general bettors, with 32% of the bets and 20% of the handle taking the over on 3,400.5.
Other Notable Player Prop Splits
While Metcalf was swapped out for Kupp, the Seahawksโ are actually returning their top receiver from 2024 in Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The former first round pick out of Ohio State broke out with 1,130 yards and six touchdowns on 100 catches last season, although it remains to be seen if he will have the same chemistry with Darnold that he did with Smith.
Here are the prop lines for Smith-Njigba, Kupp and running back Kenneth Walker III, as well as where the splits are leaning at the moment:
- Smith-Njigbaโs Regular Season Receiving Yards prop is set at 975.5. The over has seen 99% of the handle on 99% of the bets.
- Kuppโs Regular Season Receiving Yards prop is set at 700.5. The under has seen 69% of the handle on 28% of the bets.
- Kuppโs Regular Season Receiving TDs prop is set at 5.5. The over has seen 62% of the handle on 94% of the bets.
- Walkerโs Regular Season Rushing Yards prop is set at 875.5. The over has seen 78% of the handle on 96% of the bets.
Itโs also worth noting that Walker has the second-highest handle on Player to Score 5+ Regular Season Rushing TDs. He notched seven in 2024, despite only appearing in 11 games, after scoring nine in 2022 and eight in 2023.
Betting Trends From 2024 to Consider
With so many fresh faces entering the fray, it might be difficult to paint a complete picture of the Seahawksโ offense before the season gets underway. Here is a reference to how each of Seattleโs top players performed on a game-by-game basis last year, regardless of where they were in the past. (Note: Some records below include postseason play.)
- Sam Darnold (with Vikings)
- Passing Yards: 11-7 to the under
- Passing Attempts: 10-8 to the over
- Cooper Kupp (with Rams)
- Receiving Yards: 8-6 to the under
- Receptions: 9-5 to the under
- Kenneth Walker III
- Rushing Yards: 7-4 to the under
