The Kobe 6 Protro “Total Orange” honors Mamba’s passion for women’s basketball and is as sleek as it is eye-catching. Total Orange for the W combined with a legendary design featuring snakeskin texture for Mamba? Pure fire.
Kobe, of course, was a well-known supporter of women’s basketball, thanks in large part to his daughter, Gigi. Last year’s Kobe 4 Protro “Girl Dad” was a testament to this as was the fact Kobe was often seen on the sidelines at games, especially at the University of Connecticut where Gigi is considered “forever a Husky.”
“Imagine the absurdity of that, that your father’s Kobe Bryant and the most excited you’ve been in a long time is being around college women’s basketball players.”
UConn mourned Gianna Bryant on Monday, calling her “forever a Husky.” https://t.co/EndDdHOVeh pic.twitter.com/Q0QEGi1scH

As I’ve written about before, the Eric Avar-designed Kobe 6 was noteworthy for its snakeskin-like upper, with Nike noting in the past that the scaly snake pattern on the upper is “inspired by Kobe’s ‘Black Mamba’ nickname.” The upper comes in total orange with a cosmic clay Swoosh, a total orange midsole and heel counter and an icy translucent outsole. Like all Kobe re-issues, it’s not a straight up retro like the Air Jordan line, it’s a “protro,” meaning improvements are made to bring it up to the performance standards of today. In this case, that means an Air Zoom Turbo unit in the forefront and low-profile traction for improved court feel.
Taken together, these improvements, along with today’s players’ loveo of Kobe, has made it so that the Kobe 6 remains a very popular model on the hardwood, with Kixstats.com listing it as the most popular shoe in the NBA and WNBA by minutes played. Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark will also see one of her Kobe 6 Protro PEs hit shelves later this year.

The Total Orange 6s are part of pack of sneakers set to release Since Kobe’s tragic passing in 2020, Kobe Protros remain highly sought-after, especially Kobe 6 Protros, and the Kobe 6 Protro Total Orange is already on StockX, with an average price of $318, albeit on just six sales, which represents an 45 percent price premium. That’s basically in line with the Kobe 6 Protro Sail is already on Kobe 6 Protro Sail, but well behind the iconic Grinch Kobe 6 Protros and it’s Reverse colorway. The bottom line is this shoe will sell out quickly and if you miss out be prepared to pay above retail on the aftermarket. But for many, this is a price they’re willing to pay to show their support for the Mamba and the women of the WNBA.
Best of luck to all looking to pick up a pair!
