All-Star Weekend is this weekend and Nike is celebrating with a special edition of the Kobe 6 Protro Sail, dubbed by some as the “All-Star 2.0,” set to drop on February 13 for a retail price of $190.

The Kobe 6, designed by the legendary Eric Avar, was noteworthy for its snakeskin-like upper, as Nike notes on SNKRS that the scaly snake pattern on the upper is “inspired by Kobe’s ‘Black Mamba’ nickname.” During the roll-out of the Kobe 6 back in 2010, Kobe described the shoe as being very character-driven, which is certainly an apt description.
The shoe features a flexible Zoom Air unit along with responsive foam and the insoles also carry on the late Bryant’s request that he wanted a shoe that would mold to his foot. This shoe is part of the Kobe Protro line, which means that unlike, say, Jordan retros these shoes are not built the same way they were originally and instead have been updated with modern play in mind. As such, the Kobe 6 has remained a very popular model on the hardwood in the NBA, with Kixstats.com listing it as the most popular shoe in the NBA by minutes played.
The Kobe 6 Protro Sail, also called the All-Star 2.0, is unique in that the normal snakeskin-esque raised upper is replaced, at least on the lateral side, with a raised star pattern. That star pattern harkens back to an era where All-Star sneakers were seen as truly special and a big deal, which Nike will also refer back to later this month with its retro of the Nike Air Foamposite One Galaxy on February 21. It should be noted that the Mamba/snake inspiration isn’t totally tossed out, as SNKRS notes that the Sail colorway is “inspired by a snake shedding its skin to give it a fresh look.” The shoe will come with three pairs of laces — one white, one black and one sail — and features a mostly sail upper with the star pattern on the lateral side and the traditional snakeskin pattern on the medial side. There is a black Nike Swoosh which stands out from the rest of the upper, as well as a subtle violet accent on the ankle liner and bone accents on the heel.
Kobe Protros remain highly sought-after, especially Kobe 6 Protros, and the Kobe 6 Protro Sail is already on StockX, with an average price of $361 on 789 sales, which represents an 82 percent price premium. Best of luck to all looking to pick up a pair!
