Tuesday evening’s matchup between the Phillies and Padres has been postponed due to rain and inclement weather at Citizens Bank Park.
The game was originally scheduled to start tonight at 6:35 p.m. EST.
A doubleheader will take place on Wednesday, July 2nd. Game 1 will begin at 1:05 p.m. ET and Game 2 will be at 6:15 p.m. ET.
The Padres head into Citizens Bank Park tonight eager to erase yesterday’s 4-0 shutout loss, thanks to elite pitching from Zack Wheeler. At 45-39, San Diego has come back down to Earth a bit after a hot start to the season but still fields strong hitters such as Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado, who lead the team in homers and doubles, respectively. Nick Pivetta will draw the start for the Padres tonight, entering with an 8-2 record and a 3.36 ERA.
Philadelphia, sitting in first place in the NL East with a 50-35 record, has won three of its last four games and is looking to take a 2-0 season-series lead with a win tonight. Kyle Schwarber continues to hit Schwarbombs, ranking fifth in the MLB in home runs. Cristopher Sanchez is scheduled to take the mound tonight for the Phillies.
These are two great pitching teams with each team ranking inside the top 10 for team ERA, and considering last night’s game featured pitching excellence from Zack Wheeler, tonight’s matchup could be the same. Both Pivetta and Sanchez have a combined ERA of 3.1.
