Stephan Jaeger to make the cut
Jaeger has only missed one cut in his last 11 starts and that missed cut was excusable, as it came at the very challenging Oakmont Country Club for the U.S. Open a few weeks ago. Jaeger has finished inside the top 10 in two of his last three starts at Detroit Golf Club, including a nine-under 63 during the final round in 2023, which tied for the lowest score of the event that year and was one stroke shy of tying Jaeger’s career-low on the PGA TOUR. Ranking 23rd in par five performance this season, Jaeger is in a strong position to thrive at Detroit Golf Club again this week, as this venue is a traditional par 72, where four of the past five winners have finished the event top five in par five efficiency.
Chris Kirk to make the cut
Kirk has been very successful at Detroit Golf Club. The veteran has never missed a cut in five starts at the par 72, and four of these finishes have been top 25 results. Among the players in this field that have competed at Detroit Golf Club more than once, Kirk ranks ninth in strokes gained per round. Kirk has made 10-of-16 cuts this season and he is on the heels of his best finish of the year, with a T12 at the U.S. Open two weeks ago. At the major, Kirk gained strokes in every important category — one of only 11 players to do so at the demanding Oakmont Country Club. Looking to build off this impressive showing at a course he knows very well in Detroit Golf Club, Kirk is a very safe bet to make the cut.
Jesper Svensson to make the cut
Svensson is a Rocket Classic debutant who has a great chance to make the cut this week. The Swede has only missed one cut in his last 11 solo starts and Svensson is fresh off a T18 at the RBC Canadian Open. At TPC Toronto that week, the 29-year-old gained strokes across the board and he posted a pair of five-under 65 rounds. As a short par 72, Detroit Golf Club favors long hitters, who are efficient on par fives, and Svensson fits this exact mold. This season, he ranks fourth in driving distance and 20th in par five performance. Three of the four par fives at Detroit Golf Club range from 550-600 yards, and when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds, Svensson ranks fourth in efficiency on this specific length of hole, giving him strong upside in his first attempt at Detroit Golf Club this week.
