I think Bayern Munich are the better all-around team here and I’m backing them to win this match on the road. The German champions are unbeaten in both the Champions League and Bundesliga so far this season, although they have had more draws than they would have liked. Even still, this is a team who went toe-to-toe with PSG over two legs in the semi-finals last season, and won seven of eight matches in the league phase before that to get themselves second place in the standings going into the knockout rounds. Bayern are top of the Bundesliga on goal difference after eight matches, just ahead of Borussia Dortmund, and look primed for another deep UCL run.
Atlético Madrid are no scrubs and are off to a hot start this season, but they are just lacking a bit of star power up top compared to Bayern. Julián Alvarez is world class but doesn’t have much other star power around him. Bayern are absolutely stacked in the forward areas and this team scores a ton of goals as a result. Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz when healthy are a stacked group. Even without a healthy Diaz, they have plenty of other solid options to turn to. Harry Kane winning the Ballon d’Or not only proves how great of a player he is, but it also reflects the quality of the team he plays for. I like Bayern to win a competitive game in Madrid.
