After Thursday’s first round of the Travelers Championship, two golfers sat atop the leaderboard at -8: Austin Eckroat ($6,100; 63 FPTS) and Scottie Scheffler ($13,300; 79.5 FPTS).
Eckroat went -8 (62) on Thursday, but had a much different experience on Friday, finishing +1 (71). He had a birdie and a double-bogey on the front nine. The back nine consisted of a bogey and a birdie. He is currently -7 for the tournament and T5.
Scheffler also went -8 (62) on Thursday. On Friday, he had a bogey and two birdies on the front nine. The back nine consisted of two birdies before notching a double-bogey on Hole 17. Scheffler finished -1 (69) for the day and is -9 for the tournament.
In the $800K Summer Sand Trap tournament, Eckroat is rostered on 2.63% of teams while Scheffler is the most rostered golfer by a wide margin at 43.97%. Scheffler is the only golfer on more than 20% of teams.
Scheffler is now joined by Justin Thomas ($9,300; 76.5 FPTS) and Tommy Fleetwood ($8,900; 80 FPTS) at the top of the leaderboard heading into the weekend.
Thomas is rostered on 12.52% of teams and shot a -3 (67) on Thursday. On Friday, he went -6 (64). Thomas racked up two birdies on the front nine. After a bogey on the first hole of the back nine, the magic happened with five straight birdies on Holes 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.
Fleetwood is rostered on 15.6% of teams and went -4 (66) on Thursday. He finished -5 (65) on Friday. The front nine consisted of a bogey and a birdie. On the back nine, Fleetwood racked up two eagles and a birdie.
DraftKings Sportsbook had Eckroat at +2500 to win it all, the fourth-lowest odds, and +100 to finish Top-10 after Thursday. He is now +4000 to win it all and +100 to finish Top 10. Scheffler was the heavy favorite to win it all at -140 after Thursday. He remains the heavy favorite at -105 after Friday.
Thomas is +500 to win it all heading into the weekend, the second-lowest odds. Fleetwood is right behind at +550. Both are -650 to finish Top 10.
Here are the golfers rostered on at least 10% of teams that are above par heading into the weekend:
Jordan Spieth ($8,200; 1 FPTS) is rostered on 10.95% of teams. He withdrew from the tournament after 12 holes due to a neck injury.
Si Woo Kim ($7,800; 12.5 FPTS) is rostered on 10.02% of teams. Kim shot a +1 (71) on Thursday. Friday began ominously with a double-bogey on the first hole of the day followed by two more bogeys. He added another bogey to close out the front nine. After a double-bogey on the third hole of the back nine, Kim called it a day and withdrew from the tournament with a back injury.
Shane Lowry ($8,300; 19 FPTS) is rostered on 11.6% of teams. Lowry shot a +2 (72) on Thursday. On Friday, he finished +3 (73). Lowry had one bogey on the front nine. The back nine started with three straight bogeys before a birdie on Hole 15. Lowry is +5 for the tournament a T63 heading into the weekend.
Sepp Straka ($9,200; 25.5 FPTS) is rostered on 14.27% of teams. Straka went +4 (74) on Thursday. Friday’s start couldn’t have gone any worse than with two double-bogeys. Straka did bounce back, though, with a birdie and a bogey to close out the front nine, then three birdies on the back nine. He finished +1 (71) for the day and is +5 for the tournament, T63 heading into the weekend.
Daniel Berger ($7,500; 25 FPTS) is rostered on 14.37% of teams. After Thursday’s +1 (71), Berger replicated the feat on Friday. On the front nine, he had a double-bogey, two bogeys and a birdie. The back nine consisted of two birdies. Berger is +2 for the tournament and T49 heading into the weekend.
Xander Schauffele ($10,800; 31.5 FPTS) is rostered on 13.71% of teams. Schauffele went -1 (69) on Thursday. He followed that up with a +2 (72) on Friday. Schauffele racked up three bogeys on the front nine, then finished the round with two birdies and a bogey on the back nine. He is +1 for the tournament and T42 heading into the weekend.
Aaron Rai ($7,500; 26 FPTS) is rostered on 12.82% of teams. Rai went -2 (68) on Thursday then +3 (73) on Friday. He racked up two bogeys on the front nine then a double-bogey and a birdie on the back nine. Rai is +1 for the tournament and T42 heading into the weekend.
Viktor Hovland ($9,000; 31.5 FPTS) is rostered on 14.95% of teams. Hovland went -4 (66) on Thursday then followed that up with a +5 (75) on Friday. The front nine was brutal with five bogeys, which includes a four-hole streak. After bogey, birdie and bogey on the first three holes of the back nine, Hovland closed out the day with a birdie on the final hole. He is +1 for the tournament and T42 heading into the weekend.
