Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Guardians prediction, pick for Monday 5/19/25

This matchup between the Cleveland Guardians and the Minnesota Twins at Target Field is a clash that sets the stage for a pitching-heavy battle. With the Guardians reeling from a four-game skid and the Twins still red-hot from their 13-1 run, this game has the makings of a low-scoring affair. The real story here lies within the starting pitchers, as Bailey Ober and Logan Allen face off in a contest of control and groundball dominance. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Monday baseball game between the Twins and the Guardians.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Twins vs. Guardians prediction, preview

Ober has been on a tear, holding a 3.72 ERA and 1.37 WHIP this season. His command has been sharp, striking out 40 batters in 48.1 innings and limiting hard contact. His numbers at home are even better, with a 2.53 ERA across four starts. Cleveland’s offense is in disarray, ranked 23rd in batting average (.232) and 25th in slugging (.381). While Jose Ramirez has been red-hot, hitting .378 over his last 10 games, the rest of the lineup is struggling. With Cleveland sitting near the bottom in OPS and slugging, this matchup screams opportunity for Ober to stifle the Guardians’ offense.

Meanwhile, Logan Allen, despite a respectable 3.70 ERA, has been plagued by contact. His WHIP of 1.52 is clear evidence that he allows too many base runners, and with a Guardians offense struggling to put together consistent threats, the Twins’ patient hitters will look to capitalize on those free passes. The Guardians have been unable to manufacture runs, ranking 25th in runs scored and 29th in quality starts. Allen has posted solid performances at times, but his command issues could spell trouble against a Twins lineup that, though missing the likes of Byron Buxton, still has firepower with players like Trevor Larnach and Ty France.

Guardians vs. Twins pick, best bet

Let’s talk trends. The Twins have won nine straight at home, and they’ve also covered the run line in each of their last six home games against AL teams with winning records. The Guardians, however, have dropped seven of their last eight road games against teams with a winning record, and their road struggles seem poised to continue in this one. The total has gone under in four of the last five games for the Twins, and with both teams ranking low in offensive production, it’s hard to envision an explosion of runs here.

Looking at the bullpens, Minnesota’s relief staff has been nearly flawless, posting a 2.93 ERA and holding opponents to a .228 batting average. On the other hand, Cleveland’s bullpen ranks in the lower half of the league in ERA and WHIP, with a troubling 1.41 WHIP and an ERA of 4.16. The Guardians have allowed 190 runs this season, and their bullpen has been more than vulnerable, especially when called into action late in games.

The under 7.5 is too juicy. Both teams have struggled to put together big offensive outings, and with two capable pitchers on the mound, scoring will be at a premium.

Best bet: Twins vs. Guardians under 7.5 total runs (-115)
