There’s only one game on Monday’s WNBA slate, so all the focus can be on Wings vs. Storm. These teams selected first and second in the 2025 WNBA Draft and will matchup for the first time this season.
Both squads enter with 0-1 records and underwhelming debuts from their top rookies. This will be a chance for improvement in the early portion of the season.
The Storm open as three-point favorites on the road and are -155 on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. The total is set at 163. Let’s take a look at the best bets for this contest.
Storm vs. Wings prediction, preview
Although Paige Bueckers doesn’t have the gravitational pull that Caitlin Clark had as a rookie, that doesn’t mean she isn’t as talented. Bueckers is one of the best prospects the WNBA has seen in history, so fans should jump at the idea of watching her play.
That alone makes this Storm vs. Wings matchup a must-watch, but there’s more. Bueckers will go against Dominique Malonga, the 2025 No. 2 pick. Malonga is more of a project, but she’s still an exciting prospect at 6-foot-6 and 19 years old.
The Storm acquired the No. 2 pick in a three-team swap that sent Jewell Loyd to the Aces. Seattle is headed in a different direction after losing in the first round last year. The Wings are also in a rebuild after an nine-win 2024 campaign.
The two teams matchup well in 2025 with Arike Ogunbowale and Skylar Diggins being veteran leaders on their respective clubs. Bueckers gives the Wings an advantage that Malonga hasn’t tapped into yet. To be fair, Bueckers is four years older.
Storm vs. Wings picks
Total Over 163 (-110)
The Storm and Wings are rebuilding, which was clear from their first games. The teams struggled against tougher opponents and didn’t play great defense.
Dallas allowed 99 points to the Lynx on Friday, while the Storm gave up 81 to the Mercury on Saturday. While the Lynx are a Finals contender, the Mercury aren’t quite on that level without Kahleah Copper. Phoenix welcomed a ton of new players this year, but Copper, a returning star, hasn’t played yet due to injury.
Defense, or lack thereof, will be the story of this contest. In the eight total WNBA games this season, five contests went over the 163 mark. One of the exceptions was the Storm vs. Mercury game since Seattle scored just 59 points.
The same three contests that didn’t hit the over also had a team scoring fewer than 70 points. While it’s slightly concerning that Seattle was one of the teams, it shouldn’t happen against the Wings.
Dallas’ defense isn’t as strong as Phoenix — it let up 99 points to Minnesota. The Storm aren’t going to score 99 or even 90+, but they can definitely improve from their 59-point season opener.
Dallas Wings +3
It’s a bit shocking that the Wings are the underdogs in this one. They’re the home team and faced the Lynx in the season opener. Most teams look weak against Minnesota, but Dallas still scored 84 points despite inefficient outings from Bueckers and Ogunbowale.
They will have a much better game on Monday, which is why the Wings will cover the three-point spread. This is a safer option since there’s some room for error. For more risk, the Wings are +130 on the moneyline.
Dallas should win outright, but there’s comfort in a three-point spread.
Parlaying the over and three-point spread yields +256 value.
