On the most recent episode of All The Smoke, Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson were joined by basketball legend Cheryl Miller and she weighed in on the never-ending GOAT debate. So, who truly deserves the title of greatest of all-time: Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant or LeBron James?
Miller initially had her list as MJ, followed by James and then Bryant. Miller contended that James is the greatest specimen of an athlete and added that we may never see a physical marvel of James’ magnitude again. Aside from his physical presence, Miller says that you have to factor in James’ longevity as a key indicator of his greatness. This, led Miller to adjust her list to put James before Jordan and Bryant. Miller points out that James is STILL BALLING and Barnes made note of who James is not just on the court but off the court, mentioning his activism.
This led the USC legend to say that if we rate them on their activism, it should be James, Bryant and Jordan. To her point, Bryant has impacted not just the NBA but also women’s basketball, even alluding to what Bryant’s late daughter, GiGi Bryant, could have been as a basketball player. Moreover, she appreciates athletes who are doing impactful things off the court. Jackson pointed out that Jordan and his mom have opened several health clinics. With all of that said, ranking those players is HARD, and no matter where you rank the GOAT contenders, we will never be able to agree on one true GOAT.
