Mondays can be a travel day around the MLB as teams get to the sites of their respective mid-week series. Luckily for bettors, there are 10 games scheduled for Monday, May 6, still giving plenty of matchups and lines to look through to find an advantage. With that in mind, here are our best MLB player prop bets for Monday’s action, with odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Teddy Ricketson’s 2024 MLB Player Prop record: 35-32-4
Sunday recap: Travis d’Arnaud didn’t start and only came in as a defensive replacement, so they didn’t have an official at-bat. His prop bet of over 0.5 hits was pushed. Garrett Crochet had one of his best starts of the season against the St. Louis Cardinals and struck out six over six innings. Hunter Brown actually pitched decently for the Houston Astros but gave up five hits in 4.1 innings to hit his prop. Overall, 2-0-1 on the day.
MLB player prop bets: Monday, May 6
Walker Buehler under 5.5 strikeouts (-170)
I have gone back and forth on this bet because Buehler will face the Miami Marlins. The matchup itself has upside, but the context of this start is why I think he falls short. Buehler hasn’t pitched since June 10, 2022 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. With this being his first start in a year and a half, I think he sees an early pull. If I were confident he could pitch into the seventh inning I’d take the over, but not in his first start in 23 months.
Marcus Semien over 1.5 total bases (-110)
Semien has a good matchup against the Oakland Athletics and starter Alex Wood. He is 4-9 in his career against the Southpaw with two doubles and a triple. Semien has a six-game hit streak and has at least two bases in three of them, including in two of his last three games.
Luis Castillo 6+ strikeouts (-270)
Castillo heads into Monday’s matchup against the Minnesota Twins with a 3-4 record and a 3.46 ERA. Despite these being middle-of-the-road numbers, he has struck out 49 batters (ninth-most in the MLB) in 41.2 innings. Castillo has also struck out at least six hitters in six straight games and only missed the mark in his first start of the season.
Luis Castillo over 17.5 outs recorded (-165)
I couldn’t decide between which Castillo prop to take because I like them both, so I am taking both. The Seattle starter will be starting his eighth game of the season and has recorded at least 18 outs in four straight. The Twins scored three runs or fewer in back-to-back games so as long as Castillo’s pitch count doesn’t get away from him, he should be able to record at least 18 outs and pitch six full innings.
