Brian Campbell broke through for his first PGA TOUR victory at the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld. He won $1.26 million of the $25 million purse for the event. The 31-year-old was playing his 28th PGA TOUR event and this was his first career top 10.
Campbell won the tournament by defeating Aldrich Potgieter, who had the lead after the second and third round. The 20-year-old South African finished solo second and earned a payout of $763,000.
With one of the best rounds of the day, Isaiah Salinda climbed to solo third and earned $483,000. He finished one stroke ahead of Aaron Rai and Ben Griffin, who tied for fourth earning $294,583.33 each.
Just behind those two PGA TOUR veterans were two more established players. Joel Dahmen and Stephan Jaeger tied for sixth and each won $245,000. One stroke further back, Nicolai Hojgaard had his first top-10 finish of the season in his second start on the PGA TOUR. He finished alone in eighth place and earned $218,750.00.
Pre-tournament favorite Akshay Bhatia finished alone in ninth place to earn $204,750.00. Three players tied for the last spot in the top 10–Alex Smalley of the United States, Ryo Hisatsune of Japan, and Alejandro Tosti of Argentina. Each of those players earned a $176,750.00 payday at Vidanta Vallarta.
