Ohio State vs. Notre Dame Predictions: National Championship Best Bets

Updated:

By: Julian Edlow

If you’ve been reading my articles throughout the College Football Playoff or tailing plays on Twitter, you already know who we’re on for this one. But if you’re neutral and looking for some plays on Monday night’s National Championship Game between Ohio State and Notre Dame, we’ll break some down below.

It feels like forever ago, but when we had Monday Night Football last week, we successfully teased the Rams, and the last leg will come down to the Buckeyes. On Sunday afternoon, I used the Eagles as another teaser leg that got through, and will wrap tonight with Ohio State. Put those on top of the future placed on the Buckeyes prior to the game against Texas, and we’re loaded to the gills on OSU if you’ve played them all.

Ryan Day and company got a serious test from the Longhorns, with the game coming down to a couple of monster plays at the goal line. Texas matched up well with Ohio State, and I’m not convinced Notre Dame can say the same. Give full credit to the Irish, besides one very strange game back in Week 2, they’ve beaten everyone put in front of them. Marcus Freeman is coaching out of his mind, but this ND squad does have flaws.

Unless we see some flukey plays in this one, the Irish shouldn’t have much success through the air or on the ground. Meanwhile, Penn State’s running back duo was able to combine for 166 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries. Look for Ohio State’s duo of TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins to do some damage.

But maybe even more concerning if you’re Notre Dame is that you simply haven’t seen an offense this explosive all season. If Penn State was able to do what they did, the Buckeyes might be capable of a lot more. Big plays down field to Jeremiah Smith should be there this time around, after he was held in check against Texas. I won’t be adding anymore to the side in the game, essentially with a 4-unit play on OSU to win and cover short numbers of -1.5 and -2.5 from my previous plays. But if you’re late to the party and looking to get involved, I’d still recommend laying the points with the Buckeyes.

I’m also going to play a prop angle in this one, with Quinshon Judkins Anytime Touchdown Scorer (-130) for 1-unit. Judkins has 13 total trips to the end zone this season, including two multi-touchdown games in this CFP. As I mentioned, we just saw Penn State run three in against this Irish defense, and I think we’ll see Judkins score on them in this one.

Good luck betting the game and go Buckeyes!
