Minnesota Vikings vs. Los Angeles Rams (Monday 8:00pm ET – Arizona)
With the spreads we have on the board for the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs, not to mention the National Championship between Notre Dame and Ohio State, it looks like we have a good teaser weekend on tap. However, we still have one more Super Wild Card game on Monday, with the Vikings and Rams squaring off in Arizona.
I leaned stronger to playing the Rams on the spread when they were set to play at home, but with the tragedies going on in California, this handicap becomes far more difficult. The Lions were the only team outside of the Rams to beat Minnesota this season, with a 30-20 victory on Thursday Night Football back in October. While the Vikings have the revenge narrative, and now neutral field, both working to their advantage, the Rams matchup well here.
We just saw Sam Darnold play his worst game of the season under pressure last Sunday night in Detroit, and now he has to face a strong defense that’s very well coached. With coaching and quarterback advantages for the Rams, along with experience, I’ll tease the Rams up to 8.5. If Baltimore gets back to an underdog, that’s a leg you could loop in, and the Chiefs and Lions also set up as nice teaser pieces. I’ll save those ones for my Divisional Round article, and pair the Rams with Ohio State in the Natty for next Monday.
As for props in Monday’s game, I’m not sure there’s anything strong enough to play on. The prop I’m most intrigued by is Kyren Williams on his rushing yards, which is priced at 85.5. Williams ended the regular season going over that number in four of his final five games, and ripped off 97 rushing yards on 23 carries in the win over the Vikings.
Looking at the numbers on the surface, this is a bad matchup, with Minnesota allowing the second fewest rushing yards per game this season. However, the rushing defense has been getting worse down the stretch, and was emphasized last Sunday in Detroit, as the Lions went for 178 yards on the ground. Williams should be in position for high volume, and is worth consideration on his rushing prop.
