It’s almost time to tip off perhaps the most anticipated season in WNBA history, as play gets underway tonight.
Of course, part of the reason for that unprecedented level of excitement is Caitlin Clark, who is set to make her regular-season debut against for the Indiana Fever against the Connecticut Sun. Charlotte Wilder discussed Clark and the WNBA with Mike Golic Jr. and Mike Golic Sr. as part of her weekly Wilder Wednesday on a Tuesday appearance.
GoJo says that contextually Clark making her heralded debut feels a lot like Zion Williamson coming out of Duke a few years back.

Charlotte says all you have to do is look at the Fever games. She notes that Sun registered a sellout for the first time since the team’s inception in 2003, while 36 of the Fever’s 42 games will be seen on national television. Charlotte says the business side of things shows what a massive moment this is, even as from a basketball perspective Clark’s new coach Christie Sides says they have to break some habits, such as taking some of those long 2-pointers and realizing she won’t be able to just dance around the 3-point line like she did at Iowa. So from a basketball perspective, Charlotte is fascinated to see what happens, especially given how much of a target Caitlin might be for every other veteran in the W.
Senior also notes that it will be interesting to see how good the Fever can be, especially given all that national television exposure. Indiana has not been a very good team in recent years, so it could get tough watching so many national TV games if they’re just a bad team with Caitlin Clark. But Senior says the WNBA will certainly have center stage, and not just Clark but also some of the other stars we’ve gotten to know over the last couple of years in the college ranks. He says the league is getting more notoriety now than they ever have, making more money they ever have and in all honest they need to step up a little bit. Especially given the kerfuffle over the much-celebrated rollout of charter flights. So, Senior points out that the WNBA needs to get their ducks in a row as we get ready to watch what should be an incredible season.
