College Football Playoff Picks: Best Player Prop Bets for Oregon vs. Ohio State

Oregon takes on Ohio State in the Rose Bowl in a rematch of one of the best games of the regular season. Here is how to bet on player props for this game at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Rose Bowl: Oregon vs. Ohio State

Jeremiah Smith Anytime Touchdown (-130)

Freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has been a superstar for Ohio State this season. Smith has exceeded the lofty expectations set for him when he arrived on campus in Columbus. He has 13 touchdowns in 13 games for the Buckeyes and has become Will Howard’s most reliable red-zone target. Smith can beat smaller defenders for jump balls in the end zone or use his speed to beat a defense over the top for a long touchdown. His versatility makes him nearly impossible to cover for any defense.

These teams faced each other earlier this season and Smith had a big game against the Ducks. Smith had a season-high nine catches, which went for 100 yards and a touchdown. Smith is also in great form as he was the star of the first-round playoff game against Tennessee. In that game, Smith had 103 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Smith also scored the lone touchdown for the Buckeyes in their disappointing regular-season finale loss to Michigan. He has proven that he can beat this Oregon defense and with the ridiculous form he is currently in, I am happy to bet Smith to score a touchdown in this game at -130.

Jordan James 80+ Rushing Yards (-130)

Jordan James was another standout performer from the first matchup between these two teams. When these teams faced off in the regular season, James had 115 rushing yards and a touchdown. In that game, Oregon fed James 23 carries, one of his highest carry totals of the season. Part of the reason for that is because it is nearly impossible to throw against Ohio State. The Buckeyes rank third in the nation in defensive EPA/pass. They are very good against the run as well, ranking 18th in defensive EPA/rush, but their run defense is nowhere near as dominant as their passing defense.

In this matchup, Oregon should give James 20+ carries once again. In Oregon’s biggest games, it feels comfortable giving the ball to James over and over again. He had 23 carries against Ohio State, 23 carries against Michigan, 25 carries against Wisconsin and 20 carries in the Big Ten Championship Game against Penn State. In all of those games, James easily eclipsed 80 rushing yards and he should do so again with that level of workload in this game. This season, James ran for 80+ yards in 11 out of 13 games. The only two games where he did not were blowout wins for Oregon where James rested in the second half. This will obviously be an all-out effort from Oregon and James should clear this number for a 12th time this season.
