Best NHL Player Props for November 5
Connor Bedard 3+ Shots on Goal (+100)
Bedard has totaled at least three shots on goal in five straight games, and he has cleared this mark in seven of his 10 outings since returning from a shoulder injury on Oct. 13. Among skaters with at least 100 minutes of ice time, the 21-year-old ranks 11th in shot attempts per 60 (21.08), and his 9.24 shots on goal per 60 lead the Blackhawks. If anything, he’s had some bad luck: his 10.30 expected shots on goal per 60 sit above his actual rate, and only two skaters have had more attempts blocked per 60.
Tampa Bay isn’t an easy matchup on paper, allowing the fifth-fewest shots per game (24.6), and Chicago is on the second night of a back-to-back. But that didn’t slow Bedard down on Wednesday in Florida, where he logged 22:25 of ice time and totaled four shots on net. He’s the focal point of the Blackhawks’ top power-play unit, so the looks should be there again tonight at even money.
Mitch Marner 1+ Assist (-115)
Marner has notched at least one assist in 11 straight games dating back to Oct. 8. His 16 assists lead Vegas and are tied for ninth in the NHL, and he has done it in only 15 games after missing two for personal reasons. He has been just as productive setting up the second assist as the first, ranking T-8th in secondary assists per 60 (1.59).
Detroit’s penalty kill has been a big weak spot all season, killing off just 70.0% of its opponents’ power plays (T-25th), and that should set up nicely for a player who has done plenty of damage with the man advantage. Seven of Marner’s 16 assists have come on the power play, where he skates on the Golden Knights’ top unit. The Red Wings have been pretty stingy at even strength, but the -115 price isn’t overly juiced for a playmaker on this kind of run.
Roman Josi 3+ Shots on Goal (+120)
The last time Josi saw the Avalanche, he racked up three power-play assists and four shots on goal in a 6-2 win on Oct. 25. The 36-year-old has turned up his shooting as of late, totaling 35 shots on net over his past 10 games, including outings of six and five shots in two of his past three. Among 255 defensemen with at least 10 minutes of ice time over this 10-game stretch, he ranks sixth in both shots on goal per 60 (8.35) and shot attempts per 60 (16.94).
Josi leads the Predators with 43 shots on goal, and only eight defensemen average more ice time than his 25:19 per game, so few blueliners get more chances to rip shots from the point. Colorado has allowed the 10th-most 5v5 shots on goal per 60 (26.87), and plus money on a blueliner shooting this often is worth backing.
