The Bills are coming back from their bye week and they host the 49ers on Sunday Night Football this week. The extra time hasn’t been enough for Dalton Kincaid (knee) to recover, though, as coach Sean McDermott ruled out the tight end on Friday morning. Without Kincaid, Dalton Knox ($4,000 Showdown) is in line for another start, but can he help your fantasy team? Let’s take a look:
Dawson Knox this season
Playing behind Kincaid, Knox was only sparingly involved through the first seven weeks of the season. He did have five catches and a touchdown, but didn’t get many targets.
Kincaid hurt his knee in Week 10 vs. the Colts, and Knox played a then season-high 70% of snaps, totaling two catches on three targets for 40 yards.
In Week 11 with Kincaid out, Knox set new season-highs for catches (4), targets (6) and snap share (84%). None of those targets were in the red zone, but he has proven to be a red zone option for Josh Allen ($11,000) in the past, with 23 career touchdowns in his five and a half seasons in Buffalo.
Knox tied for second on the team in targets in that win over the Chiefs, finishing behind only Khalil Shakir ($8,000), and finishing with a solid 8.0 fantasy points.
Knox’s outlook this week
Knox and the Bills are seven-point home favorites against the Niners, and the veteran tight end is at +205 to score a touchdown.
The Niners have allowed the fifth-fewest fantasy points to the position, so it isn’t exactly a smash spot for Knox this week, even though he should be involved. With all 32 teams in action, Knox is outside my top 10 TE to start. He can be used in season-long leagues as a deep-league or desperation play since he will start, but he doesn’t have an extremely high ceiling.
In DFS contests, Knox is a great value at $4,000 in contests like the NFL Showdown $1M Sunday Night Showdown [$250K to 1st] (SF @ BUF). He should get enough targets to return good value.
