Jayden Daniels has been widely considered the prohibitive favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year for most of the season, but coming off Week 11 we’ve seen some significant movement on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Daniels is still the favorite, but his odds dropped from -3000 last week all the way down to -400. Meanwhile, Bo Nix is rising fast, jumping all the way up to +300 from +1200 following a stellar performance that saw him throw for 307 yards and four touchdowns in 38-6 victory over the Falcons.
Mike Golic Jr. says this is interesting, while Mike Golic Sr. said the biggest thing that has changed for Nix of late is that he’s calmed down in the pocket. Senior notes that he made 61 starts in college and notes that we’ve been finding that players with more collegiate experience are going to be the guys who adjust a little earlier now. Senior says Nix is figuring things out and the game is slowing down for him, which is exactly what should happen with rookie QBs. There’s a learning curve, especially when these rookies start off on a bad team. But, Nix has the benefit of being with what Senior calls a hell of a quarterback coach in Sean Payton who will bring him along, even if he doesn’t baby him and coaches him hard.

The OROY is, as Senior admits, a stats-driven endeavor. Nix has 14 touchdowns now after his 4-TD performance vs. Atlanta, so all of a sudden his award stock is on the rise. But, if there’s anyone Senior thinks should be getting more love it is Brock Bowers, who currently has +3000 odds to win OROY. Bowers is SECOND in the NFL in receptions. That’s not just second among tight ends, that’s second among EVERYBODY. Ja’Marr Chase is first with 73 and Bowers is right behind him with 70. The Georgia product continues to do what he did in Athens, even as a true freshman, and that is simply catch the football.

GoJo agrees, noting that Bowers has been nothing short of sensational, especially when you consider some of the questions that were being asked about Bowers during the pre-draft process last spring. Which is especially interesting given that GoJo says Bowers was one of the greatest college players to ever do it at the position at a place where they play plenty of high-level competition. The questions about Bowers made no sense to GoJo, and Senior completely agrees.
GoJo points out that you’ve probably already missed out on your best chance to get in on the Bo Nix money as things should get interesting with Nix being the only one of the players discussed here that still has a chance to show off in primetime (Monday, December 2 vs. Cleveland). GoJo says we know those standalone games, especially when it comes to quarterbacks, can throw things out of wack. And facing a Browns team which has struggled mightily, if he puts up big numbers on Monday Night Football GoJo thinks this race could get a little hairy, even if ultimately he thinks it’s going to be hard to pry the award out of Daniels’ hands given the amazing reclamation project going on in Washington. And Senior agrees that despite the movement, the award is Jayden’s to lose.
