Per ESPN Jeff Passan, the Juan Soto sweepstakes is heating up this week. On X, Passan tweeted the following:

Earlier this month, DraftKings Sportsbook released the odds for who will sign Juan Soto. While there have been some movement since then, this is the current day odds as of November 12th
Of the teams he listed that will be meeting with Soto, the odds are as follows in the order they’ll be meeting with Soto
- Toronto Blue Jays +2000
- Boston Red Sox +2500
- New York Mets +160
- New York Yankees -130
The Yankees are the current favorites to retain Soto’s services as he slashed .288/.419/.569 with 41 home runs, 109 RBI, 128 runs scored and seven stolen bases through 157 games. Soto will only be 26 years old when he takes the field next season. Because of his youth and talent, Soto is expected to score a monster deal this offseason. Don’t forget, he already declined a a 15-year, $440 million offer from the Washington Nationals in 2022. After that report came out on July 16, 2022, Soto is slashing .274/.412/.521 with 84 home runs, 238 RBI, 263 runs scored and a 162 wRC+ with the Nationals, Padres and Yankees.

While Soto landing in New York, in some fashion, are the odds on favorite, two “dark” horses are lurking. The Red Sox are in desperate need of an uplift after missing the playoffs for three straight years. Going with cheaper, affordable options has been their motto over that span but Boston fans are restless. The front office has said they’ll be “aggressive” this offseason and reportedly have Soto at the “top of their want list.” While many are skeptical, it’s not as if the Red Sox don’t know what it would take to sign Soto. They have the funds, but will they commit?
The Blue Jays have the luxury of being able to create the first impression. Jon Heyman reports that the Blue Jays could be “the biggest obstacle” for Soto to remain in New York. They, like the Red Sox, could also afford Soto. Regardless of the outcome, expect a flurry of Soto news over the next week. If you’re looking to make a play here, the Red Sox and Blue Jays present some very long odds for teams that could write out that massive check.
